I mean he didnt use outside knowledge though he just said
Here's the VT PM, if you are VT, you know I am a town.
When in fact all of those VT and everyone else will be like uhhh what??
And thats what happened
GMs should always give example VT PMs to prevent this from happening!!!
Did no one learn from M3?
We did this. The VT PM was in the OP of the game as posted by Worcej.

This is entirely the point. Chippe didn't break a rule because literally anyone could copy the words in the OP.

I read over most of Chippe’s day 1, and I’m not really seeing the issue. The VT role PM was in the OP, as it always is since the M3 debacle. What is everyone taking issue with?

Leaving aside all of Chippe's previous games, does no one defending him see a problem with him telling the GMs of the current game that he won't do as they ask?

My understanding, based on what the GMs said, is that he wouldn’t publicly post saying he wouldn’t employ the same strategy again. I wouldn’t either, it seems humiliating and singles him out. A private agreement should have been enough.

Chaqa's right the GM doesn't have a right to micromanage a player strategy. They are impartial observers that enforce rules and adjudicate that's it.

When a GM start's micromanaging how players play and what a player can do then that represents a major problem. I am very disappointed, like Chaqa, in the course of events that have happened here.

##CALL GM
Can you state, as clearly and specifically as possible what your new rule with regard to so-called "angle shooting" will be in this game?

I think we should look at any rule change before the game starts, so that we can avoid any arguments once the game is running.

Why? Because I'll have contributed more to the game on the sidelines than you'll have contributed with your 117 Day 1 posts?

The sad thing is, I didn't even angleshoot. I did exactly what MafiaUniverses' rules says to do, and contacted worcej to clear my post with him (and to re-word it to meet his interpretation of the rules).
If you are unsure if a particular action/read is angleshooting or not, (privately) ask the game host and/or a moderator.
Banning angleshooting wouldn't of prevented me from doing what I did.

Rule 0 needs to be used very carefully and is only there to enable the GM to act in urgent or exceptional cases.

Rule 0 is not there to allow the GM to ban or Modkill people they don't like.

I'm gonna need some clarity here.

For what it’s worth, here is my two cents:

I think people are overblowing Chippe’s “tactic” about posting the VT thing. He asked the GMs what he could and could not post. That shows he was trying to abide by the rules given. If we want to not allow that going forward, fine. But he shouldn’t be punished when he clearly made an effort to make sure he was playing by the rules.

That being said, we have private diplomacy games on this site via passwords. I don’t see why we can’t have private mafia games too. The issue with Chippe is people find him unpleasant to play against. Just like I won’t join dip games with annoying players, people can avoid games. And if I set up a game with a password it’s to make sure I can exclude people I don’t enjoy playing with. I don’t see a problem with that either

@Jamiet, this was my correspondence with Neph. Perhaps this will address your question?

Hey,

I am writing to you as the GM of Mafia 47.

In the previous game you insinuated that you had gamed the system and found a way to subvert the rules. I believe, and my co-GM agrees with me, that this move was against the spirit of the game. I therefore am requesting that you, on the sign up thread, make a statement that you will not attempt to subvert the rules this game.

Note that this is only regarding to trying to bypass the rules that are in place to allow all players to enjoy the game.

By all means I am not trying to push you out of this game and welcome you to the game. That being said, I want it enjoyable for all.

If you have any questions or concerns then feel free to get in touch.

I wasn't intending to: it wouldn't work a second time.

I thought Jamiet's argument on how little information my claim provided was pretty good; could you provide a detailed argument on why Jamiet's argument is wrong and that somehow my claim gave me an unfair advantage?
Nephthys wrote:

That is encouraging to hear.

What you did was not overtly against the rules, as Jamie pointed out multiple times. However, the rules of the game, from my perspective at least, are only part of the code that we play by. Like morality, this secondary code is not enforced in a legal sense although the disregard for it will often lead to a negative experience of those around.

I believe that your actions directly created a negative playing experience for an overwhelming majority of the players (many of them voiced this).

GMing, I have discovered, takes a lot of effort. I have put many hours into this game with the intention that I can provide a positive experience to all playing. Therefore any situation that could negatively impact that causes me concern. That is why I have asked this of you.
ChippeRock wrote:

So you agree it's not against the rules and is unpunishable?
Nephthys wrote:

I believe it breaks rule 0.

0. The GM reserves the right to adjudicate individual scenarios that arise during the course of the game at his discretion.
ChippeRock wrote:

That's a really grey area rule...
Nephthys wrote:

Be that as it may, I am telling you that I consider it broken. Are you prepared to make the statement?
ChippeRock wrote:
Mon Jul 08, 2019 9:16 pm
I already told you I don't plan on trying it again - as it wouldn't work a second time.

I was talking about a public statement on the sign up thread.
ChippeRock wrote:

I refuse to make any more unnecessary additional statements regarding the matter. Especially not ones that I have to parrot back something that I've already stated.
Nephthys wrote:

I can respect your response. However I will ask you to respect mine.

We have decided to exclude you from this game due to your response to my, in our opinion, reasonable request to maximize the experience for all players. I am making a post in the sign-up thread to inform the other players of this decision.

This only applies to this game.
