Pause button

#1 Post by jwoelmer2 » Tue Jul 24, 2018 2:08 pm

Have you considered bringing the Pause button over from vDip? It's useful for if someone's going to have a short vacation and request a 4-day extension from the other players of the game (must get 2/3rds majority).

On the subject of the Pause button, though... My current group agreed to Pause for a short vacation during the Builds phase and all countries except one (Spain) clicked the Pause button. However, since Spain apparently went on vacation early and didn't click Pause, time elapsed and we moved onto the next phase without myself (Italy) and some other players getting their builds. Is there any way to rectify this so that I can get my builds?

Also, for the future, would it be possible to implement a "majority rules" function for the Pause button? As it stands, one country has a lot of power by /not/ pausing the game.

Thanks!

The situation you experienced sounds like one in which you could have e-mailed the mods. They can pause games too.

Yes, next time please email the mods at [email protected] as we're really good at pausing games. We're not very good at rectifying things, but if you wish to stand a chance you'll have to email the aforementioned address. We'll have a look at it.

Pausing works a bit different here. If we (mods) receive a pause request, we immediately pause the game(s) in question. However, if another player has a problem with the pause, we resume the game (with a substitute, or some other solution)! In other words, players are able to block pauses and that's intentional.

Of course it rarely happens, because we're all gentlemen and ladies. I personally find it appaling to oppose a pause and hold people who do so in very low regard.

Extending ia better than pausing, because youdont need to unpause , but it faces the same problem: will all the players press the button on time?

On vDip, you only need a 2/3 majority for the game to get an Extend. :) For a Pause, you still need unanimity (unless a mod force pauses the game).

From the Mods:

"Hi,

Players are within their rights not to pause a game when asked. As such, we do not roll back games that process in this way. Not only is rolling back games a dangerous function, but it is simply not something that should be considered in this scenario.

Apparently, the mods didn't fully understand your situation. In your game, everyone was in favor of the pause; the one person not voting pause was in fact one of the players to NMR.

I know that this would not be a good solution, but it may be better than nothing.
Perhaps get everyone to agree to submit holds for the next two seasons so that it returns to builds. This obviously only works if you trust everyone, but given that this sounds like a private game, it may work.

I can understand how the Admin response may be interpreted as such, but it holds. Even if a player asks for a pause, they're still within their rights to not pause.. Technically.

Furthermore, we will not roll back this game (and are generally very reluctant to do so).
