This tournament needs to be scratched. I've had a zillion pauses and now there are a rash of NMRs because no doubt people aren't keeping track. It's pretty much chaos and a full on mess.

So, what you are saying is that it is an accurate representation of a standard gunboat game on Webdip?

I’m saying it is a bloody useless tournament. I’m entering only holds from here out

ogion out here setting a real good example and *definitely* not ragequitting or anything.

Ogion, if there are problems in your games you should probably email the mods about it. I've not had any bad series of NMRs in my games

All games I'm doing poorly in, or have lost, should be cancelled.

Where I'm doing well, those games should be allowed to continue.

(Thank you for all your work for this mostly this thankless task, ghug.)

I will freely admit to having messed up in my games that could have cost me a solo, but I do agree with Ogion that NMRs have messed up many of my games to the point of probably giving away solos, completely screwing me out of what would have most likely been a 3/4WD or easily could have been.

Even though I think the concept is very cool and thank ghug for organizing the tournament (and dealing with my issues, hehe), I also cannot help but feel that this tournament far from represents player skill and rather a lottery of who gets to capitalize on players who don't care enough. This makes me inclined not to join again, though I guess I'll give it a shot again next time anyway hehe.

Tournaments have nmr’s. That is not an excuse for you to break site rules by discussing your moves in gunboat games on the forum. Please do not do so again.

I think when we have another one, I'll probably be significantly more aggressive about cutting off a big chunk of players to designate as subs. The ones I had lined up pre-tournament mostly disappeared, which has led to me playing catch-up on the disappearances a bit, and the ensuing lengthy pauses.

As for actually preventing NMRs, we could return to WFO (next time, no rule changes in flight), as we have in other tournaments, but the trade-off there at least theoretically is longer interruption times.

Please also remember not to discuss how you plan to move in your games on the forum, even if it is just venting frustration. This is gunboat.

P.S. I still love subs.

It is a setting that would make the tournament drag even worse, "wait for orders". Basically, it is a setting in which there is no enforced deadline.

I see ogion is currently ranked near the bottom. Undoubtedly, the Tournament's flawed in assessing GB skill. FWIW, I've not had any NMRs in my games. How then am i currently in first? It's weird.

Not really. He is in position 35 to 51 (with all those with a 4wd) out of 119, so closer to the top than to the bottom. Most people have not scored any points yet. I'm not listing those with zero points.

The large number of solos we're seeing may in part be explained by NMRs, but a lot of them are also due to the very uneven skill level. In many of those wins there was a player that didn't know how to set up an easy stalemate line.

In one of my games there was a player that played excellently to set up a stalemate line and then misordered a support order and gave the solo away, so I lost my Turkey draw.... I'm tempted to say that he's the worst.

I believe I'm now contractually obliged to never say that he's the worst again.

I refused to sign this contract when I was hired, so I can say from experience that he's indeed the worst.

The tournament should not be commented yet...
These comments could influence its remaining course.

Actually, i'm in second spot in two of these, and the third is still in 1902 and just pulled a center from an NMR power. However, having games paused for weeks, then get a move, then paused again is a mess.

I sure don't blame Ghug, but I do blame the fools who signed up for a tournament they weren't going to show up to play in.
