You know. Whether you smoke or not it will not change the problem. In smoking you lose 20 years but they come after 65... It still remains you 31 years to live before.

Instead of smoking, which is borring, why not practicing a sport. It is much more funny occupation and it will give you more pleasure for your life after 65...

Let's not image your life after 65 assuming you would smoke again and survive...

I'm with CptMike. Ultimate Frisbee is a nice sport that'll improve your fitness regardless of your starting level, and it's a lot of fun.

people knock smoking as an addiction, which is by definition a bad thing. i disagree.
smoking is a micro way to feel alive. let me explain:
let's imagine your "level of enjoyment and pleasure" as a graph.
our Y axis is how much fun you are having in a given moment, our X axis represents time (lets say an average day).
now, let us assume that you experience the same total amount of fun either way, which is true for most people, as in:
people who are blessed, are well off and have everything they want tend to get bored.
people who have very little tend to enjoy the little they have and know how to cherish small pleasures better.
got all that? now, a question:
would you rather this graph be flat, or would you rather it to have highs and lows throughout?
i suggest that it being flat will tend to be boring and uneventful.
lets put aside money, status, etc. what are the human pleasures we experience every day? they tend to all be based on the same principal - tension and release.
you're hungry and then you eat and feel content. you're tired, then you sleep. you're thirsty, you drink. you're horny..... etc.
would you rather be missing one of these? would you rather never eat again and also never be hungry again? would you rather never needing water but on the other hand never feeling that amazing relief of having your thirst quenched? i suggest you wouldnt take those deals. because if you would, you might as well be dead. you have to have to the low to get the high. there must be a low point between two high points.

as for other reasons, health etc:
yes. smoking increases risk of problems, but everything does.
at least anything remotely fun.
you are going to die anyway.
you can pedal on a stationary bike for 4 hours a day like a navy seal hamster and still get hit by a bus and die in your thirties.
not smoking is no guarantee of anything.
life is a random mess anyway, so you might as well enjoy yourself.
nobody belongs anywhere, nobody exists on purpose, everybody is going to die, come and have a smoke

@Spacecadet: Does smoking lower your ability to use capital letters at the start of sentences?

im writing a long message about a nonsensical topic in a board game forum (off topic).
i wasn't aware i was going to be graded on my writing abilities.
btw, out of the four languages i speak (fluent in 3), english is only my second best, so excuse my poor writing skills.
couldn't help but notice you have UK in your name.
boy, that must be nice feeling high and mighty because other people aren't as well equipped or attentive to the grammar rules of your native tongue.

Not sure that you are famous enough to be mummified, such as Zultar, MadMax or myself could...

What about offering your body to science ?

A noble idea, sir. May I strongly recommend the Trappists?

Seriously as someone who struggled like hell to quit tobacco, dont do that sh3$%%^#, and if you need some quit resources, Im glad to point the way. The only drug that is as chemically addictive is heroin, and at least that shit is a lot more fun (and likely cheaper on balance).

In terms of thrill-seeking/deathdefying, go with some eggs, bacon, cheese, and whiskey every day for breakfast. Or, again, the heroin. Or me playing Germany in boat.

I quit smoking cigarettes in 2015 for New years resolution.

I have maintained this abstinence from cigarettes.

no, what i meant is that it is an addiction, but not all addictions are bad by definition.
it's not disruptive to the point of affecting your life like hard drugs.
but yeah, it is adding a basic function to your life.
one you don't really NEED, but aren't these functions the best part of life?
good food, good sex.. evolution dictated we derive pleasure from these things.
once you are addicted, your body dictates that you derive pleasure from relieving the tension of the addiction.

When we do retirement analyses at work for clients, we tell them that to reach their retirement goal without running out of money they either have to save more money each month or take up smoking.

I'm not sure the latter is even true, unless they're able to mooch all those sigarets. If they actually buy those sigarets, they'll run out of money even faster! You should tell them to take up passive smoking. Get the same effect, for free!
