Nike and Kaepernick

Is there going to be a Republican boycott of Nike now since they have taken a side in the Colin Kaepernick debate? Colin hasnt played a down of football in years- and remains the anthem kneeldown folk hero/villain. Given how the league is now fining players who kneel- how much longer will Colin be relevant as an icon to sell shoes? It seems like a strategy to squeeze sales from people already likely to buy Nike- but at the same time it is a dangerous divisive decision that could cost them many customers too.

I always find it odd that when an American company takes a side in a political battle, they often come out weaker than before. Most corporations stay away from things that may damage corporate image

I dislike Kaepernick as much as the next guy, but I don’t think I’ll boycott Nike just because of one ad (I don’t actually own any Nike apparel right now, anyway).

It's a fairly safe bet for Nike since they get lots of free publicity with little loss in sales. Sports team buying at professional and school levels are usually locked up with multi year contracts. Individual customer buying by parents might drop off, but those over 18 that will buy are less likely to stop if they can afford it. But I really doubt the Trump supporters were the type to buy Nike except to support their favorite teams and not because of the brand.
I don't buy Nike so it doesn't matter to me.

I won't buy Nike ever again. What a sick company endorsing a guy like Kaepernike. Hope that company tanks.

It appears Nike renewed its contract in order to prevent him going to competitors. Also they had marketing research showing that they would make more money promoting him then they would lose with people that opposed him.
Besides they saw how much New Balance lost apparently supporting Trump. :)

I feel like nike shouldve endorsed him 3 years ago. When it was a hot button issue. Nike is a bit behind the times imo

Why are people so upset about about guy kneeling during the national anthem? Is that a problem in the US? Thought you guys were all about freedom of speech and expression.

Only if they agree with the speech and expression. :)
It's why Trump supporters can chant, "Lock her up," about Hilary Clinton about unproven charges while protesting any hint of proven Trump criminality.

No, it's not the free speech and free expression people have an issue with. A lot of people disagree vehemently with the reasons Kaepernick gives for kneeling.

Telamor, he can do whatever he likes, but that does not mean their freedom of speech' has to cease, and if they want to boycott nike over this, how is that any different than what he is doing?
He took his stand, and is paying the price (sort of) by no longer working Nike took its stand. Now, some people are taking theirs by not buying Nike. See how that worked out?

Is it a big nono? Some of your favorite posters here do it all the time. I never said I thought it was a nono, I call out Republicans for being massive racists fairly regularly.
I'll try to refrain from oppressing the poor, downtrodden Catholic church in the future. my bad.

It’s because the top executives and CEO have a political agenda of their own. Profits don’t matter as much as pushing your ideology when you’re a multimillionaire or billionaire.
