I've always struggled to believe that anyone who genuinely finds a political debate with heated language abhorrent could possibly be any good at diplomacy.

See if it is good for my engagement, and i do the normal human thing and project - i can assume it is good for everyone's engagement. (or that those not engaging are a tiny minority).

Seems a fairly normal belief to me, and if i've learnt anything from these 'political debates' it is that everyone is fairly happy to take a position and stick with it, despite mounting evidence that it is wrong.
