Now that you mention it, Trump does have very similar colouration to my Lion-o action figure. Damn it, I'll have the theme tune going through my head all evening.
Hilarious, but what do you think of Mr. Trump's comments?

Pretty horrible, no?

That he hopes George is looking down from on high and is chuffed to bits by the start of the post Covid recovery? It's an unconventional speech, I have to admit. I can't claim to know enough about George to say with any certainty what he might think about national employment figures, but I'd hazard a guess that post mortem he doesn't have strong opinions one way or the other.

But in terms of showing respect and dignity for the sake of the family it falls rather short of the mark. Nothing particularly unusual for Trump who has something of a blind spot where tact and common decency is concerned, though.

Truth be told I preferred Defenders of the Earth to Thundercats. Both were far better than He-Man, of course, which in turn was infinitely superior to Captain Planet. Strangely enough I was always a fan of The Raccoons, from which I picked up my left wing outlook on life.

Also, your 10,000th post is quoting me talking about a Lion-o action figure. I'm honoured, but I don't think anyone has won the sweepstakes. ;)

I don't know how you could be clearer which side is the problem.

It is the police brutality.

'casual cruelty' https://www.breakingnews.ie/world/us-of ... 03657.html
Do they arrest these mean policemen who can be called "criminals" or are they out as the police who killed Floyd before the protests?

If I'm not misremembering, these particular officers were suspended. I might be mistaken, I've read about a lot of police brutality over the last few days..

NB, the police released a statement saying he tripped, before they realised there was video footage of the push. Having seen the full video, it looks like he was trying to return a riot helmet to the police at the time...

FWIW: There was a BLM demonstration in Durham, UK, where I live, yesterday. Around 250 people turned up and, to the extent possible, observed social distancing. Most wore face coverings. The demonstration was peaceful and orderly and the police presence was proportionate and relatively friendly.

A "counter demonstration" of around 30 people organised by the English Defence League (a fascist white nationalist group) took place nearby, focused around a statue which the EDL claimed was a "war memorial" which they claimed the BLM demonstrators intended to vandalise. Ironically the statue they gathered around is not a war memorial, it is a vanity statue erected by the family of a wealthy mine owner who was a vigorous campaigner *in favour of* child labour and who was responsible for many deaths for forcing the harbour at Seaham to remain open, in order to continue the export of coal, during a rampant cholera epidemic in the late 1840s. There is a memorial to the Durham Light Infantry nearby but the skinheads all congregated around the statue of the bastard mine owner, displaying their ignorance.

@jamie, I can't help but notice you take effort to mention how the protest socially distanced.

I am glad that they did, but the need to say it demonstrates an issue, which I think is addressed nicely here: https://slate.com/technology/2020/06/pr ... acism.html

DOJ Barr defends removal of peaceful protestors by lying about the method when photographs of the gas shells and manufactures own descriptions show the truth. Rewriting history on days later as more details come out to expose lies.

The George Floyd killing is still awful and hideous, but I'd wish the rioters and looters would stop pretending they're doing it for justice and out of altruism.
Disgusting.

My heart goes out to all the protesters of this senseless murder, I'm with you.
It's too bad a bunch of nihilists are taking advantage of this situation making the whole movement look bad.

Chauvin and Floyd knew each other from working security and Chauvin had been aggressive in dealing with club patrons especially Blacks. So this was not a random victim.

What has happened recently? I've read about kettling in London, but otherwise social media seems to have died down. With only a few suggestions that twitter and Facebook are limiting the sharing of protest related media.

Are protests continuing? Has the police violence reduced? Are they getting tired?

US protests are going strong and more police officers are being recorded contradicting official reports.

Trump is backing down now that the military is withdrawing support for his idea to bring back combat troops to dominate the cities.

The hell?

Burglarized is a real word? I'm in shock. It sounds like one of the noises Bush used to make when he forgot how to speak English.

It's US English. In proper English we would use "burgle" and "burgled" where Americanians tend to use "burglarize" and "burglarized".

I have always found this one strange. For consistency shouldn't they also use "murdererized" instead or "murdered"? What about "fraudsterized" in place of "defrauded"?
