How does everyone feel about trump’s statistics being from Election Day on rather than Inauguration Day?

I find it amusing (but not surprising) that Trump has already been lying about how big an audience the address got - just like at his inauguration.

What is it about this guy and lying? He just loves to lie.

What lying Trump said:

"Thank you for all of the nice compliments and reviews on the State of the Union speech. 45.6 million people watched, the highest number in history!"

The truth:

- Bill Clinton's SoTU speech in 1993 had 66.9 million viewers.
- George W. Bush's SoTU in 2003 had 62.1 million viewers.
- Barack Obama's SoTU in 2009 had 52.4 million viewers

I bet every time Trump takes a shit, he shouts to his wife "Melania! Come and look! I just did the biggest poop in history, bigger than any president ever pooped before!"

Oh wait, with his diet that one might be right...

I wonder what online streaming numbers there were, that's how I watched it and the stream I was on had over 10,000 just at the start

That said, trump is A. An idiot saying THOSE numbers were the biggest and B. The fact that he cares about this shit

I watched parts of it, but I feel like it’s a very overhyped event. In the age of public broadcast, it’s just been an opportunity to virtue signal for an hour and a half, and people treat it like the most important thing in politics. The only thing I find particularly interesting is learning about the designated survivor.

Good God, it's like herding sheep. All Trump has to do is toss a new alternative fact in the air and instead of discussing what was wrong with the speech his opponents are reduced to wasting time saying things like "actually I think you'll find that in the year of 1962 Kennedy would have achieved a bigger audience if not for the disruption caused by widespread snow in the north and northeast..."

NOBODY CARES! You are eating out of Trump's hand! It's like he's playing puppet master and you're a particularly naive Pinocchio. Don't let him distract you from the real issues so pathetically easily.

Speaking of eating out of Trump's hand, did you see who the Democrats got to respond to Trump? They dug up a bloody Kennedy! That's going to do wonders dispelling the idea of an impenetrable political elite, that is. It's almost like they want to lose!

As Scott Adams said in his last book, Trump throws out so many lies, the public becomes overwhelmed and just gives up. First president to have a daily fact checking column in my newspaper on what Trump said. Weekly column on what didn't happen this week in the news, but reported anyway as fact.

While I actually agree with your point to an extent, - that the bigger issue is the substance of the policy and that is what should be discussed - do you not find it alarming the both:
a) blatant disregard for truth that our president, but also our political system in general, has?

b) lack of standard that we as a general public hold our elected officials to?

I do believe these are serious issues. And while it would be great to discuss the policy, it is impossible to discuss policy that is so veiled and distorted by lies.

The taking issue about misconstrued viewing numbers, yeah. That's dumb. I certainly agree.
