Pay, order it, and wait another year so the company can sell higher priced ventilators. The US government hasn't got one of the 10000 they ordered last year before things got bad.

New York emergency services ordered not to provide CPR to heart attack victims, as there is no hospital space to bring them to. They will instead be left to die.

Literally could not make this up: https://abc7ny.com/coronavirus-nyc-news ... rk/6069778

And it hasn't hit countries without decent infrastructure yet.

@ orathaic. It's call triage. Used in WWI and Korean Conflict etc.
Saves on the morphine.
Nueva York itself allows certain 'essential' categories of stores to remain open in the Lockdown: e.g.: Liquor stores, "Convenience stores (i.e., tobacco and vaping products) & supermarkets (AI machines have come through with this Spring's asparagus harvest - unless migrant workers were out picking this biennial vegetable and ignoring social distancing). Pet food stores are also allowed to remain open.
Social distancing - lockdowns - ignored in the USA Midwest, shale oil/gas fracking Oklahoma for one. Business as usual.

I thought I'd take a leaf out of Ora's book and post a Twitter feed

An interesting read.

We should absolutely hold China's feet to the fire after this is over. However I do see much of the China discussion now as a deflection from our own government's failings to deal with the situation properly (especially in the US).

Trump is continuing to try and absolve the federal government from any responsibility for the scale of the crisis. Now they are rewriting the responsibilities of the Strategic National Stockpile so that it is only "supplementary" to each states own stockpile (it makes absolutely no sense for states to keep large individual stockpiles):

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/202 ... or-states/

I wish they could spend as much time on trying to fix the crisis as they do trying to spin it.

Trump already has stated that he accepts no responsibility for his mess, so now he's hoarding supplies to protect him and his cronies. He doesn't want to help anyone that isn't showing extremely loyalty to him.

https://news.yahoo.com/national-stockpi ... 44292.html

This is why Russia is shipping needed medical supplies into New York instead of Trump. Only 20 of 1000 beds are being used on the navy medical ship at New York City and 16 beds at Los Angeles.

Are their number also falsified?

Although those who trust the numbers are asking if the coorelation with the TB vaccine (BCG) is actually the factor to consider.

It would be great if the TB vaccine makes a difference. My wife has definitely had it. I am not sure whether I have had it though.

Right-wing media still seems to be obsessed with cloroquine as the only solution (because Trump said it is a "game changer", it must be true!). Tucker Carlson is still trying to defend the indefensible, Giuliani's tweets:

https://www.salon.com/2020/04/02/tucker ... s-deleted/

Tucker is of course lying through his ass here (as he usually does). If he really does believe what he is saying he is a complete and utter moron.

If Fox is knowingly spreading misinformation, they absolutely should be suppressed. I really hope they get sued out of existence for their coverage (though unfortunately they probably won't).

What's the issue with cloroquine? My understanding is it's an established malaria drug that has shown enough initial promise against coronavirus to be undergoing major clinical trials in several countries. Trump has said it can be prescribed on compassionate grounds, which will effectively provide a field test that the rest of the world can watch with interest. If it turns out to be useful then happy days

First drug trials have been conducted on only small numbers of people, usually 20 and the largest is 111.
Second positive results have only been seen in tests on mild cases that might have recovered without treatment with comparison to control groups only showing slightly better results.
Third on tests with severe cases there has been no positive results. Patents have died, taken off the drugs, or gone onto needing respirators.

Then there are the problems:
Shortages for patients that need it for approved usages placing them at risk for increased health problems including death. These are people more likely to get coronavirus if they can't get for existing health problems.
People have died from taking it because of incorrect dosages or formulations not meant for human consumption.
It makes people think they are safe when they aren't.
It keeps people from getting proper treatment until their in worse health.

But Trump has gone much further than that. He has essentially said it is the cure (as Guiliani tweeted it is 100% effective!). In today's briefing he took this one step further and said he will take it. This is after Fauci saying right before this that we still really have no real evidence of its efficacy yet.

Since Trump made the cloroquine claims, according to Trump PR and right-wing media, you apparently aren't allowed to suggest that this call on cloroquine/hydroxycloroquine may be premature...and that there may be some adverse consequences of making such a call. If you think this you must hate Trump so much that you want people to die. Trump has essentially build a "cult" and he is God.

This is not healthy for democracy and the long term interests of the country. This sort of BS where you aren't even allowed to question the Dear Leader is how countries slide into authoritarianism. Another shoe drops - On Friday evening he sacked the independent Inspector General on Friday evening (the one that forwarded the Ukraine complaint to congress). Step by step he is gradually removing all checks and balances to his power.

And now our Dear Boris Johnson is in intensive care. Hope he gets better soon.

He is just such a lovely political character. I think I would miss him despite all...

Bulgarian manufacturer of BCG vaccine says it is not suitable for mass use to protect against covid 19; the vaccine takes 3-6 months to increase immunity, while weakening the immune system in that recovery period.

yahoo.com/news/half-us-hydroxychloroquine-supply-drug-182238902.html

About half of the hydroxychlorquine sold in the US is now being kept by India for there own needs. I'm waiting for Trump to retaliate after he's blocked medical supplies to other countries including Canada and demanded 3M stop selling surgical masks made in Singapore to Asian countries.

Trump owns shares in a company which produces Chloroquine? Who can find proof?
