Seriously becoming traumatic for me though. I don't know where I went wrong, strategically (besides losing every 50/50 in existence). Should I have gone for StP in 1903?
I think you should have sent the first fleet to NTH > Den > BAL. But what really stands out is the move Kie > Den in S03. You're pulling a second unit into Scandinavia, but Austria hasn't even attacked StP yet. And in 04 you had to move it back.. Besides that no big mistakes. You were still close!

As a general rule, when opening north with France, I like to have my fleet mirror the Austrian army not attacking Munich in 1901. If it's making a beeline for St. Petersburg then head for Norway and cut it off at the pass. If it's headed to Germany, go to Denmark so you can leverage Baltic Sea against Austria.

If it's doing neither thing, then I'm not really sure; that usually means it's headed to Venice, which gives Austria a bit of an edge in fighting over Germany, so I'd probably go to Denmark. But if that advantage isn't really materializing, then cutting Austria off of St. Petersburg is really nice, since you can generally keep Austria off of 18 that way.

Yeah my original intent was to use the opportunity to grab both neutrals and swap fleet and army positioning (so army could move to StP and fleet out to Baltic). I thought the bot would support to Munich so I wouldn't lose Kiel.

Obviously losing every 50/50 didn't help either...

RIP. Horrible game. The bot broke its rule never to go for a home center. And that wasn’t even the worst :)

The game that you drew is an amazing finish.

Does anyone else find it much easier to compete as France than as Austria? My impression was that community consensus was that Austria had a slight edge, but for whatever reason I get my ass kicked as Austria almost every time, and with France I've always got a chance. I'm not sure if I'm just rusty/not good with Austria or if the bot plays better as France.

I've gotten the opposite impression, Eden. I have a perfect record against the bot as Austria. And in general I believe Austria is slightly favored in this variant.

Same. My score is round : 5 - 0 when I play Austria and 2 - 10 when I play France.
But I am sure Fairbot could easily improve its France's play with another opening.

Man this bot is fucking annoying. Feels like half the wins I see (including my own) come from it doing unspeakably stupid shit. Then most of the time I play against it, it wins every single guess, never makes a bad move and I get crushed.

@CptMike - what does happen if there's a draw? Does the challenge continue until 5 wins or a loss, or does a draw end it?

Let's say that if you drew, you can go on, yes !

Its interesting to see the bot change only a couple of early moves from one game to the next:
A WAR continuing to STP in 1903 instead of turning toward Germany
F APU covering VEN in Fall 1903 instead of using A TYR

The Bot played this one really well.

I had been using the strategy I employed in the first game rather consistently - the turn to STP was the new thing. I definitely made some mistakes after that; particularly, I think I should have taken MUN in Spring 1903, getting me a build. I also think my fleet should have gone via Denmark, which again gets me an extra build in 1903. Having only the one build there really hurt me.
