A Three Gunboat Series

#1 Post by AleaIactaEst » Mon Oct 19, 2020 1:41 am

As some of my current games are ending, I'm looking to get a few more going. So here's what I'm thinking...

Three games. 17 points each (because 17 x 3 equaling 51 is very satisfying). 36 hr turns. HDV. DSS, of course. Anon, of course.

Reliable players, please! If points are an issue, that can be lowered.

How averse are you to lowering bet size?

I only moved out of political puppet a week or so ago and feel a bit attached to my new status.

Let's do it! How does 10 points each sound?

I'm sort of back from the dead, as haven't played for 3 years. But Xmas is approaching and was just thinking about a gunboat game where I don't have to do much talk...if you are happy to have me I'm in.

Thanks. Could you please tell me what HDV. DSS means, completely forgot those acronyms. Also what is the scoring per game? 3 different countries? thanks

Sure thing! HDV - Hidden Draw Votes. And DSS - Draw-Size Scoring, so an evenly split pot between living powers (except in the case of a solo, of course).

Hopefully we'll all end up with three different countries, but we'll be at the mercy of the Diplomacy gods for country assignments.

Thanks and sorry for the silly question...is it no press or only public press?

The gods are never good with me so I guess I'll have to remember how to win with Italy....

Oh, you're good! Gunboats are actually no press at all, so the only way to communicate is through orders. If that's a game changer for you and you're not interested in a game without any press, I totally get that! But we'd love to have you!

If you want, you can ask the mods to reassign powers after everyone joins the games. One of them did it for us for the top 100 gunboat series. See this message: https://webdiplomacy.net/contrib/phpBB3 ... 06#p170006

I love it - no press is the 'real' gunboat. I was asking because on some sites they play gunboat with public press...

No need to disturb the mods - I'll try and make up for my ITA-AUS-ITA draw!

Oh interesting! I'll add that to my index of Diplomacy knowledge!

Once everyone has joined and we have our country assignments, we can disturb the mods if someone has duplicates and wants a change.

I have no experience with code, so while the quoted post seems quite clear, I'm not quite sure how that all should be set up for the mods. But we'll cross that bridge if/when we get there!

I'll send out messages with game links in a few hours!

I think the mods can only switch countries around before the games actually begin, not when the game has already started and countries assigned. Not 100% on this, but pretty certain that this is the case.
