I joined, and I'm looking forward to playing with you folks, but I'm curious why the game creator prefers sum-of-squares scoring. Used to be that WTA (now called draw-size scoring) was practically mandatory around here.

Sum of squares is more representative of the incentives when I play face to face. Also DSS tends to eliminate players more mechanically than other scoring systems. This can be quite stressful in person, especially for newer players.

Probably helpful to clarify that although this is online, I am playing with the mindset of preparing for in person games.
I play gunboat as 1) full press is very time consuming, 2) full press is immensely different from in person communication anyway, and 3) it helps me focus on reading the board state for thing like when to stab or when i should be worried about being stabbed.
