Quitting when losing

#1 Post by Durga » Fri Nov 09, 2018 6:06 am

Hello, I'm looking for friends who don't quit games when they are getting eliminated or when things aren't looking good. People who don't suddenly get "busy" when they're down to a few supply centres or have been stabbed. If this is you, please DM me because you are apparently beautiful and rare on this website.

Look at my profile. Been on this site since 2008 and 100% reliably rating. Never defaulted a game and as best I recall, never missed a phase.

That's amazing! At your profile, how many phases have you done and how many have you missed (if any)?

I'm getting very close to 99% RR. 17 missed out of 1335. (one was not an actual NMR because they paused it in time for me, but it was counted. Fair.)

If you subbed out of the game when you are losing, or forced everyone to cancel it, then it would not impact your rr anyway.

You are correct that this is a major problem. Sad.

Really!
So how many before you start considering that it might be due to you?

Where is the middle finger emoji because you deserve one

Also, in both instances it is someone on the other side of the board. I can't be that insufferable.

If you are referring the one I think you are - I am NOT quitting - I simply gave players an option. So .i.. :)

Based on my reliability rating (games I asked to pause before leaving for trips, and no one paused because I was a dominant player, and then NMR ensues, years ago..., once you've lost %, you can never make it up...) I am not a beautiful person, but I would like to be a beautiful person. Teach me?

I wouldn't mind inspiring a little Diplomacy philosophy here. Does anyone here play Dwarf Fortress? There's a concept often touted in that game of "losing is fun." I honestly feel this translates to Diplomacy. If you are prepared to fight fight fight, losing actually IS fun - you make deals with the aggro powers, you resist invasion and slow down your main opponent, etc. It frequently astonishes me how many players just drop out when they are being beaten; they might instead make deals that make hell for their aggressors, or even offer a chance at their own survival. The real juice of Diplomacy is the "if you kill me I'll throw it to X" move. There's no other game I know of which offers such vindictiveness - which is why the game is truly so swag.

Perhaps it is because I play 2nd edition AD&D still...

I do play with this principle in mind. I am a man of my word and I do not stab allies. If you stab me in a way it will cost me the game I won't quit neither I'll fall quietly. I will make you pay. if I am to fall I' ll do my best you won't win either. Be it I will help your rival, be it I will stall until someone else will has the upper hand, one way or the other I will have my revenge. It is not working in all the cases but usually, it does.
