Does a unit that is defeated still cut off support?

Can't find this info anywhere, so would be very greatful for some advice :)

If a unit A moves on an enemy unit B to cut off his support hold for another enemy unit C, but at the same time unit A is attacked and overcome by two enemy units D and E, does unit A effectively cut off the support that unit B was giving to unit C?

Example (from MD II):

Syria moves to Eastern Med to cut Eastern Med's support for Anatolia, but at the same time Jordan and Iraq attack and overcome Syria. Does Syria's move cut off the support Eastern Med was giving to Anatolia?

Cheers!

The support is cut, even if the attacking unit is dislodged.
The way I was taught was that you can cut a support, but you can never cut an attack. Enjoy Senlac.

Yes it still cuts the support being given from Eastern Med to Anatolia.

A unit being attacked from one area can still cut support being given to another area.

It cannot cut the support of its own attacker, so if Eastern Med was supporting the attack on Syria it would have no effect.

Exception to the rule is, when a convoying army is trying to cut an enemy support, and the fleet providing the convoy is dislodged.

In that case, I believe the enemy support is not cut (as the convoy fails), and the attack itself (aimed to cut the support) is cut indeed.

I might be wrong though, so I'm hoping someone else will confirm this as well.

This is correct. The convoy is deemed not to have happened (because the convoying fleet is dislodged) so no move cutting support happened either.

Fun fact, this was not the case originally, when it came to convoys. A convoying army was able to cut the support against the fleet convoying that particular army. So one single fleet was able to protect itself against a supported attack.

As a result some fun paradoxes arose. It's an interesting read ... really

I strongly recommend the two links below:

I have no idea, how webdiplomacy.net handles these paradoxes.

Thanks for the answer, I've just began playing and it's something that bothered me as well... And are convoy paradoxes going to be addressed by the devs or is it too late already?

Great question! Developers or admins/mods might know the answer, or at least they can try to replicate the paradoxes easily and see what happens. I have no clue how they are resolved ...
