While the webDiplomacy moderation team has typically declined to moderate press in games or interfere in a hostile environment, there are a few instances where we may intervene. As such, we believe it is best to make this rule public knowledge. The following language (perhaps amended slightly) will be added to the rules page at a later date:

Diplomacy is a game of many strategies and your discussions with other players can sometimes be hostile, impolite, and even uncivilized. These press strategies are all permissible on webDiplomacy and in Diplomacy in general. However, your press with other players should never include the following:

• Messages of sexual nature
• Overt racism or sexism of any kind
• Doxxing of another player

This rule also applies to game titles.

First offenses will result in a warning in some circumstances but may result in a severe point dock and removal from the game in question if the offense necessitates such action. Second offenses may result in a temporary or permanent ban from webDiplomacy.

It is worth noting that this previously unwritten rule has only been enforced on a small handful of occasions in the past on this site and it is very unlikely to affect the vast majority of players in any way. For most players, even those whose press may be aggressive but who are still bound by common sense, this is never going to come up in any way.

Does this mean we're bringing to an end the age old diplomatic tradition of making jokes about getting one's hands on Brest?

It may also be worth pointing out to British members of a certain age, who may be getting quite excited about what goes on behind the scenes, that doxxing is not a censored spelling of dogging :) .

I ended up quitting the tournament at PlayDip and i'm never going back there because they fully supported racist and homophobic press. Nice to see Webdip is a much more civilized place.
