I've got some forum-themed flavor, something familiar for a setup, and something peculiar for a gimmick... It's Mafia XL!
Get ready to fight for death and glory in the forum, and see what mysteries lurk at the bottom of Pandora's Box, starting Wednesday, October 24.
Brainbomb has agreed to co-gm.
Mafia XL: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Roles: 21 players comprising 16 town and 5 mafia (or 13 town and 4 mafia if there's only 17 players).
16 Town
Cop
Doctor
Combo Watcher-Tracker
10 Vanilla Townies
2 Millers
5 Mafia
Godfather
Driver (3)
Hooker
2 Goons
AND... Pandora's Box, a mysterious artifact that is passed between players, granting items and effects in the night. But once it runs out of favors, the Box explodes and kills the player holding it.
The Box holds a random number of items randomly drawn from a predetermined list of possibilities. At the beginning of the game, the Box is given to a random player. During the Night Phase, the player with the Box must either COUNT or TAKE the Box's contents. Taking from the Box grants the player the next item/effect, and players are always told what they receive. Counting the Box's contents will tell you how many items remain available (but does not reveal what is in the box, or what has been or will be distributed). Failing to either Count or Take from the box has equal chance of destroying the next item in the box, or giving the next item in the box to a random player.
If there are no more items in the Box, it explodes during the Night Phase, killing the player holding it.
During the Night Phase, the player with the Box must also indicate who it will be passed on to, and the indicated player receives it at the end of the Night Phase, which counts as a visit and cannot be blocked.
The Box cannot be given back to the player who had it immediately prior (though a player can receive it more than once, if two or more people get it in between). Attempting to return the Box to the player who had it immediately prior will send the Box to a random player instead.
If the player with the Box is lynched or shot (and dies) during the day, the Box is immediately delivered to a random player.
The Box insists on being delivered to its recipient, and so delivery cannot be roleblocked, and the Box will prevent the Mafia Night Kill. The player attempting to carry out the Night Kill will be informed that their attempt failed. The intended target will not be informed that they were saved.
The box holds 4-6 items (randomly determined) in a 21 player game. Possible single-use items/effects in the box include:
---Bulletproof vests (max 1)
---Guns (max 2)
---First Aid Kits (equivalent to Doc Save, max 1)
---Role Block (max 1)
---Cop Scan (max 2, cop can receive additional scans)
---Scan Swaps (max 2, reverses subsequent cop can result so that townies appear guilty, millers appear innocent, godfather appears guilty, and mafia appear innocent)
---Oracle Reveals (max 2, publicly reveals alignment of player)
---Double Votes (max 2, player's vote is counted twice in next lynch)
---Possibly other items that could be added before game start (but none of which will be secret)
I am happy to take advice and consider adjustments or tweaks if people think the game needs to be balanced differently.
