Nice! My degree is in Political Science, and we read "The Prince" as part of our political philosophy course. Macchiavelli gets a bum rap from those who say he was an immoral schemer. He was not talking about what politicians should do ethically; he was talking about what effective politicians do do.

While it is possible that Machiavelli was being sarcastic, it's also very easy to read him as having been dead serious.
