I will guess Sun Wukong.
And we have a winner! I am surprised it took this long. In my eyes, Sun Wu Kong is not particularly obscure by any stretch of the imagination.
Thanks for the fun game! I was kind of thinking that this would be a monkey from long-ago Asian literature... I had also thought about Hanuman from Hinduism and the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" monkeys.

Next round will be up at some point later on today.

Pikachu is a rodent, specifically a mouse.
Source? Acc to Wikipedia, Pikachu is a "fictional species." And it attacks by shooting lightning, an ability I've been unable to find in any extant rodent species.
True, but the original Pokémon trading cards are still extant, and it's printed right on them.

I almost guessed Sun Wukong earlier when I guessed Chee-chee (I googled "fictional primates" and he is on the very short list) but it turns out I read the chart at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primate
wrong and thought Monkeys were Hominids. Good pick KotP and good sleuthing Sparty!
