Bummer, looks like not a single webDipper made the Online Diplomacy Championships final board. Apparently there were 3 rounds to qualify. How did our webDippers do in their 3 games? (Looks like Yonni finished highest from here.) How did defending champion Octavious do?

I was eliminated in all three of my games. Was my first tournament of this magnitude and it felt like everyone else was hellbent on my destruction. Perhaps it was something I said.

Octavious told me: "I was in it for a bit but sadly real life got in the way and I had to withdraw."
I believe he played one round, but did not make it into the draw.

It was a pretty fun tournament with some strong competition. I got a largish draw in each of my games. I probably could have pushed a couple of them to try get a better finish but didn't have the stomach or drive to do it.

Shame that not more people from WebDip stuck it out.

I've been told Conq has an account here, we could root for him.

Good showing, Yonni. In hindsight, would you have gotten into the final with a smaller draw or two, or would you have needed a solo?

Probably could have come close with draws but I haven't really looked at the scoring that closely. It was just fun to get a new experience on a new site. Being able to send messages to multiple recipients is a nice little change from what I'm used to here.

Yonni should've soloed one but I chickened out of throwing it. Looking back, I'm annoyed at myself for not following through on that - neither of the other surviving players deserved a result from it, imo.

I'd have stuck the tournament out, but I got booted out after a pause misunderstanding by a PlayDip Mod who refused to listen to my PMs and then shut down all public discussion of the incident. Not the sort of thing that makes you want to return to a site, so I won't be participating in PDET 2018.

Yeah, meme, I was kind of surprised by the way they handled it. You'd expect some amount of understanding that ppl might be confused by the pause system.

The next tournament will be here or some other site to Playdip, surely?

Yeah, sadly I had to bow out due to various reasons. Not that I was doing particularly well before hand, to be honest. A combination of a lot being on my mind, and not being able to get the hang of their in-game messaging system. Being able to copy people in is good in theory, but in practice keeping track of who said what to whom and when was a pain in the arse.

Huzzah to Buachaille! Nice to see him kicking backside again :)

The idea was for it to rotate around.

Hell, I'd put in a bid to run it on vDip if I knew where the bid was supposed to be sent.

Good thing you've got a full year to figure that out.

I also bowed out for personal reasons. And since it's the only reason I made a PlayDip account I don't know when the next time I play over there will be.

Bids go to ghug.

ghug has considered revoking this one retroactively because they didn't really call it ODC and then the TD disappeared and the new one was mean to meme, but ghug likes to pretend he isn't petty.

@VillageIdiot, don't you play, and rank highly, at PlayDip?

I didn't see you're name in the ODC results board, or in the top 25 on the PlayDip site leader-board. I thought I remember reading that you play there and I was hoping for a webDipper to root for in the ODC, or at least hoping to see that you've beaten some of the players making the final ODC board. Basically just looking for some kind of a "hometown" hero.

Do you go by another user name there?

I just checked the Playdip leaderboards. It looks like some guy named "Conq" is ranked first for both Standard Diplomacy and for the catch-all "All Games" category. And this same Conq is in the ODC finals. There is also a thread from Village Idiot saying he is the undisputed champ of online Diplomacy, so I think we can assume that Village Idiot's PlayDip account is "Conq."

Cool. Good luck VI/Conq!!! Can someone post a link to the final ODC game board for us to follow? (I haven't figured out how to find it on their site.)
