I would also like to see GoPro's attached to all the players on the Finals board to share the full experience. That's totally doable, right?

Alas, not so much. We have talked about having motion-activated cameras (which are not all that expensive in the grand scheme of things) in the negotiating spaces.

In 2016 DiplomacyCast live-streamed the top board on Twitch, with running commentary. I hope we can do something similar.

Is there an archive of that somewhere we can see?

The twitch did not get archived, unfortunately.

Yeah, that was a real loss. IIRC there was a lot of great commentary by people observing the board as it unfolded.

This year, we should have a live stream of results - we might even do it on multiple platforms, so folks don't have to go get a backstabbr account, as well as an after action report from the event that summarizes the top board.

None of which is any substitute for actually showing up and being in the room where it happens, of course. :)

I was interviewed for the Diplomacy Games podcast about the event - check it out! Lots of discussion about the details of the event!

Can't be 100% certain but from the description it sounded like Carebear. Pretty common knowledge that he plays FtF but he was fairly insistent on people not knowing who he was IRL (to the extent that his interview on the Dip Games Podcast has the sound altered to make his voice unrecognisable).

That said, he was open about it at WDC, so I think it's just that he'd rather not have his real name posted on online dip sites. He gave me a press-on temporary tattoo (whatever the word is for that) of a Carebear while I was there :D

Am about halfway through the episode now, it's great!

Chris - just wanted to say that if you do end up recording Top Board again, I'd be happy to do the closed captions if you want help with that.

That’s right, I seem to recall him being secretive now that you mention it. I also do seem to recall scanning through pictures of last years WDC and seeing somebody wearing a Carebear shirt or something so he’s not the best as his incognito attempts. ;)

Ironic part is he actually is a fairly carebear-ish of a player from what I’d noticed so his online reputation really shouldn’t have been seen as a handicap.
