#1 Post by Diplomacc » Fri Jul 12, 2019 1:57 pm

Hi all,

Following the success of the inaugural MaccCon in Spring 2019, this is an open invite to all F2F Diplomacy lovers to attend MaccCon Autumn 2019, a weekend of F2F Diplomacy in Macclesfield, England.

Everyone is welcome, the only qualification is a love of the game.

The event will take place on Saturday 5th October and Sunday 6th October.

Please PM me for details, email [email protected], or reply on this thread. It would be great to see you there!

Hello all, we are now moving into trying to get numbers and locking this down. This was mainly from playdip (where I am from myself, just spendning the summer here as part of ODC). We are hoping to get 2-3 boards going. Currently have one boards worth of confirmed attenders (Claesar hope you can still make it)

For those of you who dont know Macclesfield it is actually very accessible. A train from london takes 1:45 and costs on an open return c£90. Train from Manchester is 20 mins (so if you are flying in that works too). It's quite a small place so you arent having to get loads of taxi etc, the hotel where we stayed last time (travelodge) is 3 mins walk from the station, and about 10-15 to the venue (same time to the restaurants bars of central macc). Hotel is perfectly fine, rooms for two nights are currently going for £67.

It was really great to meet some of the players I met online, we all went out for dinner friday and saturday which was nice. Two good solid days of play but probably a bit more relaxed than a formal tournament so as my first face to face I thought it was great.

Plug over...

Macclesfield is my ancestral home! Lots of memories there for me.

Already have one trip back to Blighty planned for October, so doubt I can manage another but I will see what's possible.

I notice you have failed to mention the 108 steps between the hotel and the venue.

Well that might put people off now wouldn't it?

We have 10 definites (as definite as any one is on these things) plus 6 or so reasonably possibles. So it will happen for those of you considering it. Getting up to three boards would be great.

Its quite fun watching (fairly) good online players (from the playdip stock, I will let you make your own judgements as to how that compares) horrifically floundering when exposed to f2f for the first few times. I include myself in the floundering part.

Claesar - rumour at WDC was you need lots more practice ;-p

Are you sure the rumour wasn't that I should stop practising? ;-)

Adding to Brumark's post, numbers are looking good but another couple of 100% committed players would be very helpful, so please PM me if you can attend!

I should add that Claesar is now attending, so if anyone here has a grudge against him this is your chance to physically look him in the eye as you slip the knife in! :D
