Reliability Rating

#1 Post by xy4 » Sat Jun 09, 2018 10:39 am

Hey,

Last April, I, along with a group of friends, started playing Diplomacy on this website. We werent all particularly great but we had some good fun in our private games.

We soon expanded to public games, often taking on more than we could manage. I myself took on well over 10 games at once, possibly more. For whatever reason, I was out over a weekend or something, with no way to complete orders. I lost many of my games, and when I tried to start playing again, I realised I was getting bored.

You will now see that I have 24 Civil Disorders and a 37% Reliability Rating. We started playing again more recently and I’ve been trying to boost up my RR.

It’s going to take a lot of phases to nullify the effect of my previous NMRs, so I was wondering if there was any way in which my RR could be reset, or at least reassigned based on a more recent period of time.

You could try getting banned and then making a new account - if the staff let you.

So my advice is to do something bad, but not so bad that you're declared an unperson forever.

That’s an interesting thought but I’d rather stay on good terms with the mods. We’ve had our issues in the past because of having a group of friends who all play in the site, but nothing really came of it. I feel like that route might leave me having to start over again.

Then I suggest donating to the site and mentioning constantly that you'd like a way to reset RR.

If you're lucky, they'll hold a competition draw to reset someone's RR - and if you donated enough, they'll make sure you win.

Sounds like a plan.

Recommneded tactics for fixing a reliability rating included lying, dishonesty, subterfuge, skullduggery and outright bribery.

Username checks out.

CroakandDagger, you have come to the right game website.

Just go to the 'Join Game' tab and, join all the games you can, and then when you lose, your rating goes up! And if your lucky you get lots of currency, with none of yours at risk!

Thank you. I try to join games every now and again but I’ll join more often.

Well, there is one thing you can do, play many live 1v1 games, they are short but have many turns, so you will add quickly many turns to your statistics to help give you a better rating.

Sounds good. I am not particularly great at 1v1s and haven’t played that many as a result.

More than happy to set up a 1v1 if you'd like to play :-D

ssorenn had a thread on reliability rating recently also.

The fact is that there is no available data on the webDip site with respect to new players, so there in fact NO way to know if they can be relied on (or not) to enter orders.

I would therefore support any reasonable modification of RR to address this. It could be that the RR would not be computed until some amount of games or phases were completed (which was proposed in ssorenn's thread). Or, there could be a mathematical starting point below 100% which could be brought up fairly quickly as phases or games are completed.

As it is, I am not seeing that RR is working the way it is intended.

From what I understand, xy4 was not able to successfully tread that fine line...
