Ha'way then you lot! What do all you do when you aren't playing WebDip at work and why should I take it up?

Bowling! I've been playing in a league with some friends for a few months now (theyve been doing it for a few years), and it's a fairly rewarding hobby. The only downside is you *have* to spend money to improve at first, as you 100% need your own ball.

but, since I've gotten involved and started learning techniques, it's a rather interesting sport based heavily on repetition and honing your technique to a repeatable and consistent form. It's almost zen in that way.

Cycling is great for you, contrary to running. Okay, that's all I got.

Swim bike run! A balanced approach to non-computer based activities.

Get pet ducks, they are so cute and lay many delicious eggs in spring.

Since youre playing it here, mafia (I'll send a site if you've enjoyed it so far).

Thats basically it for computer past-times for me. Otherwise, I love rugby for physical activity, and its probably something you could find a good community for if youre on the east coast in the states -- generally a bunch of guys who like beer and singing, and sometimes jog 2 miles on a Saturday.

If youre looking for solo activities, wordworking is something I recommend to everyone. I have the fine motor skills of a drunken orangutan, but I can still make some beautiful pieces and its very relaxing.

I googled it but I'm still unsure what wordworking is. My fat fingers also operate largely independant of my brain though, so you've piqued my interest.

Mafia was good fun if a fair bit more intense than I'd expected going in but I'd definitely be interested in saying again. Unfortunately I went to a comp in the north of England so Rugby has certain associations and I lack the BMW and family fortune I'd need to really enjoy it. Woodworking sounds fun, I tried masonry at one point which I was absolutely garbage at but I have a feeling wood would be more yielding than stone.

honestly, the west coast is getting rather popular for rugby as well, especially the bay area and sacramento areas of california

Yea, but they actually care about winning, rather than the post-game drink off.

@Telamor - as it turns out, in the UK, Rugby tends to be the "hooligans sport played by gentlemen." in the US, it attracts decent athletes who didnt want to have (or actually had to have) a full time job while in college, and so couldnt continue to play US football. At least where Ive lived -- up and down the East Coast, its been the best icebreaker and introduction to a new town.

@Claesar - there go my fingers betraying me again. It was woodworking as telamor realized. Mostly thanks to vises, jigs, and the like, I can get past my fine-motor issues and I enjoy the sanding and shaping. It has some start-up costs, but will easily pay for itself after a year if you make common pieces (i.e., grandfather clocks) that you can sell.

Writing poetry! Peaceful, rewarding, and so subjective that if anyone doesn't like it you can tell them to shove off

Mafia is a deduction game in which multiple 20 somethings gather to measure each others genitalia to determine skill at reading long quote strands .

Just make a pick: Down hill skiing, playing ice hockey, scuba diving, billiards, hunting, board gaming, fishing, discussing politics, barbecuing, family. I don't have any time left for work. :)

I've tried my hand at poetry a few times but I never produce anything of much worth. Huge fan of other people's though. I have a translation of the Rubiyat of Omar Khayyam that I take with me to most places because some of the lines in it are just phenomenal.

Just because I can give multiple orgasms to the furniture just by sitting on it doesn't mean I'm not sick of this damned war game; the lies, the betrayal, the endless poetry...
