Any musicians here?

#1 Post by GarlMargs » Tue Apr 24, 2018 2:02 pm

If so, tells us what you play and maybe share a sample if you have it.

I play ukulele mostly. Started learning it about a year ago as a joke and found that I actually really liked it. I played piano for a long time before moving out and didn't realize how much I'd missed playing music.

Saving up for a tenor guitar one of these days. Tried regular guitar, but I'm cut out for four strings, no six. 8-)

I doodle around on piano. Not a sample, but this one is a fave. A funny story. I hadn't played ina bout 15 years, then I was working at a sterile and horrible law firm and I saw this little movie:

I remembered how much i miss the natural world, and quit to go do non-profit environmental work.

And then I told my fiancee that I wanted to learn taht piece. She thought I'd never played before and so it was a pie in the sky thing. I sat down for a few days and then she walked in to where my practice piano was and I started playing it. She was astonished. I bought a keyboard and I've been playing since.

Bass, Drums (poorly), and guitar. I had a little band that used to play in pubs around the North East a few years ago, that was great fun.

I play guitar (normal and bass) mostly, but have been known to dabble in drums and piano.

I haven't played live in a couple years, but I recently started recording my songs again and playing bass in a friend's band, so hopefully that'll change soon one way or another.

Guitar (usually 12-string...) play in public every week. Harmonica, less often. Kazoo, only in the shower. Beat Box (the square drummy thing, not electronic rap aid) learning. Used to play bass, had organ lessons, taught banjo, and want to play a hammer dulcimer.

Guitar, mostly blues-y stuff and improv, and more blues-y stuff on piano. People get snobby about gear and I've never understood the point of that but I really think there's something naturally appealing about putting the right tone through the right instrument. I played trumpet and tuba pretty much interchangeably for 10 years between the last few years of elementary school and the end of high school but I doubt I am half as good now as I was then.

I've played guitar and bass for decades and recently began experimenting with (semi) modular synths.

As someone who has been creating music non-professionally since the mid-1980s, I have to say that what you can do in basement or bedroom recording setup nowadays is pretty miraculous. We used to have to blast a portable stereo at one end of the room and record along with it to multi-track.
