Protocol for replacement players in game

Can someone please explain to me the protocol for replacing a player in an anonymous game. As i understand it, the player getting replaced would be put into CD by Mods and new player would take over anonymously. Then all the players in game would know who left.

Is this correct?

Depends on the situation. If someone is getting removed from a game so anyone can take it over the initial player will be put into CD so the spot is free for anyone. At the end of the game that person would show up at the bottom of the game in the "civil disorder" section. Their identity would not be known while the game was ongoing.

If there's an intended replacement the mods might use that first option or they might use another tool that just instantly switches someone and does not post a message or any other notification. In which case the initial player will not be known at the end of the game.

If the mods use the second action, they should at least indicate to the board that it’s been done. Otherwise people could use this and game the situation.

Pretend to be new player so burnt bridges have a possibility of repair that would not otherwise exist.

Maybe while we're at it, we can add a message-read notification so players can't pretend to miss a message and gaslight other players...

We haven't run into that before, but I suspect we'd likely end up considering it as falling under rule 5 if we were contacted about it.

5. Do not use the software or moderators as a diplomacy tactic
Lying is fine in Diplomacy except when it gives mods/admins unnecessary work to do!

If the player claims to contact mods but doesn’t. Waits and then resumes game, essentially under a new anonymous identity. Gets to reinvent himself and doesn’t actually involve mods

If you think this is happening or happened, feel free to write to the mods. They (we) can check this out post haste. Or however you spell that.

I’m just elaborating on possibilities from JMos post.

It definitely could, there's a few ways where people could lie about the site functionality to trick people. But should we ever find out about it, and see it was done with malintent, that person would be banned. Should it ever become a problem we'll ensure it is addressed.
