Hmm, I like the one with the actual metal armies and boats. My copy has cardboard chips instead of units, which is the worst.

I still need a copy myself, perhaps when I get a place of my own.

Diplomacy editions and variations (boardgame)

#4 Post by CCR » Tue Jan 09, 2018 9:07 am

A complete guide to the board editions and variations was made by Simon Szykman around y2k. It means this compendium does not include new releases for about 18 years.

The Compendium includes data for 101 board editions and variations, from 10 different countries, all with their respective images. It includes description details such as box design, game pieces material and design, revision of rules, order sheets, rulebook design, rules summary, play-by-mail information and plastic trays used to hold the game pieces. Check it out:

There's a related Trivia series published at the The Zine (Dip Pouch's):

Diplomacy Boardgame Trivia Revisited

Besides the fun of visiting mr. Szykman's collection and reading the Trivia, I hope these resources helps a bit who wants the boardgame - if not on acquiring an old product, at least on what look for when chosing a new box!

(*) side note: the images of the two brazilian boxes are actually my own boards - one from the 70s, another from the 80s - on which I played FtF until 1999 when I sent them both to said Mr. Szykmans collection :^)
