The country of Slovenia

#1 Post by christopherMC » Fri Sep 07, 2018 6:28 am

Hello, I have been playing a game that starts in 1994 with 9 countries ( I can't remember the name of the map) and have noticed that my country Slovenia does not count as a territory, this I understand as Slovenia is very small and fairly insignificant. However, Slovakia is shown on the map as SLO which is the contraction for Slovenia. Also, Zagreb is too far north to the point where it looks like it is another city called Maribor.

There is no 9-player variant on this site. The current variants are:

The Ancient Mediterranean (5 Players)
Classic (7 Players)
Classic - France vs Austria (2 Players)
Classic - Germany vs Italy (2 Players)
Fall of the American Empire IV (10 Players)
Known World 901 (15 Players)
Modern Diplomacy II (10 Players)
World Diplomacy IX (17 Players)

Were you playing on vDip instead?

I assume you mean Modern Diplomacy II:

In that case, "Slo" is intended to represent Slovakia, not Slovenia.

I think that's his point. He says SLO is the code for Slovenia, not Slovakia.

This site disagrees though:
https://www.worldatlas.com/aatlas/ctycodes.htm
SVN is Slovenia
SVK is Slovakia

So we're fine..

One could indeed argue that the dot for Zagreb is a bit too high, but there's only so much space in a country on the map.

I'm not even sure what the code for my country is..

I didn't create this map (or any other), but I'm fairly certain the exclusion of Slovenia is purely related to gameplay. It could've been in there, if the maker desired another area in that location.
