Q: any way to win points by starting a game?

#1 Post by esther » Sun Aug 12, 2018 5:40 pm

So as i understand, to create a new game, you must pay as many points as you require people to pay in. Does this mean you as the game "host" are also a player in that game?

Are there games where the game host (or whatever it's called) is not a player in the game?

Thanks,
e

If you start a game you are a player in it, so you win the same way as everyone else (depending on the scoring system you choose)

For example, if you start a game with a bet of 5, the other [6] players willalso submit a bet of 5, giving you a pot of 35 points which will be distributed accordingly after the game ends

You could create a game and leave in the time that others join and enough other players join to close the game. But that kind of defeats the purpose of starting a game.

I think moderators are the only ones that can create games without being a player in the game.

The only way to play a game to win points without putting in points is to take over a position in a active joinable game, however almost all those positions are there because the player is about to get wiped out. It's rare to find a player left a really good position, but it happens.

In a standard situation, that is, you start the game, pay the bid, wait for others to join, and begin playing when the required number of players has been reached, you as the host pay exactly the same bid, and remain the player with equal rights as any other player. In practical terms, the only advantage of being a host is the ability to set the parameters of the game, such as: the title, the mode, the length of the phase, password if private, etc. Once the match starts, you have no advantages over any of the other players, for example, you CANNOT cancel the match based on the fact that you have created it.

An example of a non-standard situation: you create a match with the selected parameters, you pay the bid, and enter. BEFORE the kickoff, somebody joins, and you decide to leave. You're refunded, and you are completely out, but the fact that the pre-game was already populated by some other player than you, means that the match doesn't get cancelled, and if the requited number of players has been reached, the match will begin with all the parameters you had set. But you will NOT be a part of this match, and you will NOT have any influence on it.

Other non-standard situations (e.g. tournaments) will never be of your concern, unless you're given the rights to host events of this calibre.

In short, you cannot be a host without participation. And there are no advantages, other than stated above, following the creation of a match.

Great, thanks everyone. I used to play the old dpjudge, and in that, game moderators almost never played in the game, so i was just curious.

Thanks!

Understandable, but that's unnecessary here as the site adjuncates all orders.

(...) the site adjuncates all orders.
... and if the things go wrong for us in any match, we just ban the winning part before the end of the game. Easy peasy.

Wait, that's a thing? Why didn't anybody tell me? My GR could be so much higher...

rarely a good position, but in press games you can semi regularly find salvageable positions
