Diplomacy 2.0

Hello altogether,

AA and I, Al Wulf/wulfheart, currently the maintainers of diplomacy-network.com, the German web/vdiplomacy branch, are planning a redesign and a redevelopment of the aged webdiplomacy software including a rewriting of the old engine and a complete redesign. As we are both more experienced in development we are looking for some volunteers which would like to help us in the area of UI/UX-Design.
We'd like the redesign to have a more modern appearance and mobile sites to attract new users to that great game.

If you are interested or if you have further questions don't hesitate to leave us a message here.

Greetings
Alex

I would recommend you reach out to Kestas as he's already in the process of rewriting the old engine.

Thanks for your hint. I wrote Kestas a mail.

Why not? What's the matter about PHP and node?

That is also what I meant.

I've thought about this more than a few times - and I would definitely support any efforts to modernise the site.

I personally think that the design we currently have for desktop is already very good please don't dumb it down. My biggest complaint is that the mobile interface wastes so much space displaying all your active games instead of the most recent changes.

If we really need to change the design, I would take design inspiration from the
new york times site: https://www.nytimes.com/

Rather than changing the colors fonts and layout of the desktop version I would redesign the menu system. Initially as a new user, it shouldn't take 3 non obvious clicks to join non live games.

Nice, @A_Tin_Can!
Would you also be willed to support a complete rewrite of the engine?

I believe that over Christmas break Kestas is planning to finish his rewrite of the site engine and to add support for api's to permit mobile applications.

Is there anything like a devlog to inform the users?

Sort of. Our developer(s) use https://github.com/kestasjk/webDiplomacy to log projects.

@Claesar: Github is version controlling, as far as I can see there's nothing like a roadmap or similar.

This sounds awesome, can I ask about live game support, so like sockets/push notifications, maybe even client to client communication (which I assume the technology for has come a long way... As has support for sockets).

Cause road map and features weren't listed...
