Fwiw I’d say in general I’ve had an easier time as Germany in g/i, but in this tournament so far my italy game was probably a decent amount easier than my Germany one *shrugs*

Important Announcement

Apologies all. Life kinda got on top of me in the past 2 weeks and that led to me falling behind in a lot of TD stuff (which led to some games timing out because I hadn't sent the links to the players who needed to join them).

Unfortunately, the mod tools don't have a good way of extending join phases, so rather than PMing people links to games that are expiring in 12 hours and hoping they join in time, I've moved all setup stage games back to WoTD (Waiting for TD) stage, meaning that I will be sending out setup PMs again.

In the meantime, in an attempt to get more organised, I have fixed the two spreadsheets to contain more information and have moved the TD specific information to a new spreadsheet, so I can publish these ones:

FvA Matchups

GvI Matchups

Quick key to the spreadsheets stages section (these are mainly for my benefit but they can also help people know what stage of setup their game is in):

WoPR = Waiting on Previous Result(s). The players for this set have not yet been decided.

WoTD = Waiting on Tournament Director. The Tournament Director needs to send out the setup PMs for this set.

Setup = The set is waiting on a player setting up the games, or the Tournament Director finding out that the player has set up the games (please message me when you've set up the games, this helps me quite a lot!)

Join = This set is waiting on a player who needs to join the games. I will only update the stage to this when I've sent a message to the player who needs to join.

Active = The set is underway!

Tiebreak = Either the set is on its tiebreak game, or its tiebreak game needs to be set up. It helps me a lot if the tiebreaker games get set up without me needing to message players - the setups are exactly the same as the previous games, and countries are randomly assigned, so if players take the initiative on that one I become a very happy TD :D However, I will run through all the active games to check on results every so often so I will get around to PMing players about setting up tiebreaker games if they haven't done so themselves.

Complete = Set has finished.

Forfeit = Set was conceded to the opponent before all games were completed.

@Javatiger - After I got eliminated in a tie-break (all games won by Austria), I was thinking the same thing.
Then I looked at the Champipnship Belt Game Series (a running best of the best FvA series). 11/20 of the most recent games were won by France. Then I started thinking “maybe I just haven’t figured out how to play France so well”.

Honestly it’s hard to say. I’ve never lost as austria, but I’m also I think a bit above .500 as France. It’s WAY easier to win as austria usually, but if yiu play a clean game as France and win a coin flip or two winning is def. doable.

@breaca: Thanks for your opinion. Do you have a link? I would like to analyze that games in order to learn.

@javatiger - Here is the link:http://webdiplomacy.net/contrib/phpBB3/ ... ?f=7&t=121
And yes, analyzing these games is a great way to learn from the masters.

FWIW it was quite interesting to see xorxes winning as France even after his swiss split ran into an anti-alpine.

Hello,

Are we expected to create the next games ourselves or do we have to wait that captainmeme creates them ?

I overuse that strategy a bit. It does amazing until someone expects the Autumn move.

What do you mean?

I’ve run a Swiss split as France in the FvAS 3 times now, and it’s gotten me two victories. The way I do it, very similar to how xorxes did it, depends on Austria not expecting a certain set of moves in the Autumn of 1901.

Man, someone needs to teach me how to play as Italy. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to win.

Convoy to Greece, don't cover Venice in A02.
No guarantees in tournament play, but the average Diplomacy player doesn't have the guts to try to punish you.
