Wusti, why ya gotta suck the joy out of our brief moment in the sun? :-P
(I should say, potentially at least someone at 770 sneaks into top 14 so tie breakers may matter - or at a different score)
But wusti: let us dream wusti, let us dream... ;-)

Hahaha - well if you care that much, you can go through every completed game listed and work out from those remaining which might have players that could knock you off. The data is there if you care enough to spend the time on it.

In multi-way ties, all games involving multiple tied players are considered together. I don't see any scenario where that isn't reliably resolvable.
A>B in head to head, C has no head to head with either of them, and B>C>A overall. One to advance. Who advances?
If by overall you mean overall SC count, A does, per the rules. I guess that is slightly funky, but C wouldn't have a claim to it if it were overall SCs anyway. The C>B>A scenario is more problematic from that perspective, but the ruling is the same because it would be unfair to change the written rules mid-tournament, and if you're tied by the given scoring, it's going to be pretty arbitrary regardless.

Hi, I'm someone who did that. There are currently 13 players (currently below 770) who can go above 770 with one draw. A further 16 players will reach or exceed 770 with a solo.

No way will 770 be the cutoff. I imagine it'll be in the 840 range

And in a way to vent my frustration at this fact, I'll be going through the solos and creating a list of the players who caused the solo. We can create a separate ranking of people not to invite back :)

With the number of games still to be resolved I wouldn't think 770 will the cut-off to be honest. I would expect it to be somewhat more - 840+ is my bet
I hate to quote myself Goldie, but joining the bandwagon a tad late aren't you?

Excellent. With this level of bitterness and grudges, truly we can say that webdip has reached the level of F2F play.

I mean, there's surely a difference between bad and between purposefully throwing solo. While I don't think there should be a cutoff for skill ( i probably wouldnt have even been able to join if there were), there might need to be some sort of better organization?

Not trying to get on ghug, cuz there's no way in hell i'd take on this task, but in a perfect world what would be the best way to make this happen that is the most fair? Since it does seem like some players simply get screwed (or lucky) purely by matchup.

Also, it feels like a lot of players don't play like they're in a tournament, and play each game like it's a single instance, which leads to ppl throwing solos way too early to egt back at someone when they could (and should) be fighting for a draw, or to at least force a draw amongst all other players.

Although, I'm not sure even if a system like that would help. I, personally witnessed a high-points player throw the game to a solo because they felt they would not survive if they tried to defend against it. Which, to me (and correct me if i'm wrong here) seems like rather terrible logic for a tournament. Unless you're guaranteed to be eliminated, you have every incentive to fight to stay in the draw, and yet the game was given to someone else to give them massive amounts of points in the tournament at the cost of their own ranking.

Anyways, all the being said, and my bitterness at least semi-vented for now, i would join a gunboat tournament like this again. i had a lot of fun in my games, and I, personally, felt the tournament meta setting made the games feel a lot more fun and interesting than if I had played individual games. i only wish more players had taken the meta of the tournament a bit more seriously when playing their games.

A Mod threw a game to me because another player was not reading the play and kept attacking him past where he should have, and did so in frustration. It'll be the only reason I should make the cut to be honest.

Is that bad play or 100% understandable? I am kinda torn.

Throwing a game is an important part of the game. First as a threat, second as a an execution. Dont think you should have any bad feelings about your win. There were much worse wins in this tournament.

I absolutely "threw" a game in this tourney when someone was stupidly attacking me when I was a crucial element to the potential stalemate line. And that player is slated for the finals at the moment.

I agree that we have some bad play and one or two players might get a spot on luck, but I don't think it's luck that Bozo, Xorxes, Balki, Tom and others will qualify....

So, I think the best ones get a spot no matter what.

OK, I understand now. I wasn't sure what head to head meant in multi-ties.

I think the head to head thing adds arbitrariness instead of reducing it, but it shouldn't matter much, as long as the rule is clear which now I think it is.
