The games are unranked because the scoring system we're using in neither Sums of Squares (SoS) or Draw Size (DSS). Since the scoring for each game wouldn't match either of the ranking options the mods requested that I make all the games unranked, since scoring effects the way people play the mods prefer that the game are not included when running things like ghost ratings, since they goals for the players may be different.

As far as things to play for however, there is always the pride of doing well, and having your results saved on the tournament site, plus the mod team has been kind enough to offer prizes at the end of the tournament.

Even when scoring is DSS or SoS, the unavoidable metagame of a tournament setting leads to people playing with goals other yav maximizing their scores. It's best to avoid conflicting motivations.

"Cross-gaming is strictly prohibited and if will result in your removal from the league and may result in moderator action for metagaming."

We have three games each season. Two questions:
1 - The League Champion is declared each season or each year?
2 - Given the players in the second and third rounds know from the start the points accumulated by each player in the previous games, alliances motivated by eliminating the current leaders (in the tournment) would be considered cross-gaming or merely strategy?
3 - Do moderators have ways to monitor the metagaming activity if the answer to the question 2 is yes?

1. Each Season
2. Merely strategy. Although for players who are behind eliminating the top players won't always be the best strategy. Additionally if players do decide to focus on eliminating a particular person they open themselves up to other more opportunistic players taking advantages of the openings left to maximize their own points.
3. We do have tools for monitoring cross gaming. Ideally we won't have to make use of them. There is a zero tolerance policy towards cross gaming, if anyone is proposing deals where you'll do something in one game if another player does something in a different game and we catch you I will remove you from the tournament immediately. The moderators may also dock you points or ban you....

I've seen a couple people ask about the scoring of the tournament.
You can find the details on the first page of this thread. Or on the tournament page http://tournaments.webdiplomacy.net/century-league

Yoak, the Russian player in the recently unpaused game, has not checked in on the game for 2 days and 17 hours. Please be sure to pause if necessary.

Shhhhhh!

It's a big secret ;)
I got tired of waking up all hours of the day to try and keep games from NMRing so I got the mod team to let me make them all wait for orders.

I'll be keeping an eye on players who abuse this feature and subbing them out if it becomes a trend.

You know, for the first time I have taken a look at the scoring format for this tournament.

I see some deep, deep flaws in it. Might want to give it a re-work after this season.

I'm honestly pretty happy with the scoring system as it is.

I'm willing to listen to feedback. But its a scoring system that is/was commonly used for face to face tournaments in europe for years. So its designed to encourage a particular style of play.

Namely an emphasis on rapid shifting of power as people try and prevent someone from being the board leader. We haven't seen much of that yet but I think thats mostly the result of people not having bothered to read the scoring system

I suspect people will adapt after they see the scores for the first round. ;)

Anyway I'm happy to listen to complaints about the scoring system. But understand its designed to serve a particular goal so any proposed scoring system would have to address that just as well.
