Re: Convoy conundrum...

The actual rule from the rulebook is as follows: " A convoyed Army does not cut the support of a unit supporting an attack against one of the Fleets necessary of the Army to convoy. This is a tricky and rare situation, but without this rule (Using Diagram 30 as an example), a paradox may occur." Not...

Re: Convoy conundrum...

Per the rulebook, there is only one correct adjudication. Since it is dealt with by the rulebook, there is no paradox.

Re: Convoy conundrum...

Hello Squigs44, I disagree with your definition of the classification of the scenario as a convoy paradox. It lacks cyclicality.

Aaaaaand, now my head is starting to hurt. :eyeroll:

Re: Convoy conundrum...

There is no convoy paradox here. I can tell because I have reviewed the orders in the opening post and not gotten a headache. F North Sea is dislodged 1v2.

Re: How to Break a Stalemate (in an ethically questionable way)

A misleading subject line. This isn't "breaking a stalemate". This is a player throwing a game. In and of itself, there is nothing wrong with a player throwing a game.

This is completely dependent on in-game considerations.

Try French units in Pie and WMS. I find that is very wffective in discouraging a Lepanto. :-D

Re: Shared wins?

Ugh.

A win is a win. A draw is a draw. While there are differences of opinion as to the relative value of each, it is either disingenuous or nonsensical to conflate the two.

Player 1's move succeeds 2v1v1. A plurality, not a majority, will do.

Re: Backstabbed by at least 2, maybe 3 countries. Any chance at pulling this back?

Good suggestions, and there is a chance you could pull it out. That said, things are obviously not looking good. If, ultimately, you go down, my advice is to die well. Do not go gentle into that good night. Throw yourself against whoever pissed you off the most, if it makes you feel better. Make eve...

Re: Dawn of the Enlightenment Comments Wanted

A fairly minor set of further modifications to v2.1. Inner Mongolia and Outer Mongolia are combined in just plain old Mongolia. Ferghana is merged into Mongolia. Taklamakan, a new non SC province, is separated from the southern portions of Dzungaria and the former southern Ferghana, This was done to...

Arrogance gets you stabbed, too. Everything in moderation, in Dip as in life, is often though not always for the best.

Re: Dawn of the Enlightenment Comments Wanted

Dawn of the Enlightenment is now MUCH closer to final form. I will skip noting purely cosmetic stuff (name changes, border adjustments which don’t change adjacency relationships) and just go through the material changes. Here are the changes in no particular order—hopefully I haven’t forgotten anyth...

Re: Books on playing Diplomacy

Not specifically about the game of Diplomacy, but the military classics can greatly improve strategic, tactical and diplomatic (small 'd') thinking. My suggested reading list (some of which are MUCH easier to find than others), in no particular order: A Book of Five Rings, by Miyamoto Musashi. Book ...

Re: Books on playing Diplomacy

Damn straight. Opening theory has its place, but Dip ain't chess. The personalities of the other players and the in-game situation and relationships are far, FAR more important.

Re: Honest vs. Lying - Opening

Specific, in-game considerations trump any general advice, but in general, lie only when the lie is necessary to materially advance your interests. The less you lie, the more surprising, and therefore the more effective your lies are likely to be. And as to the quality of the lies, the communication...

Re: Kill France

To expound on my point, simplicity, in addition to being boring, is the enemy of the solo, unless you are talking about a final push where the player attempting to solo has reduced matters to a purely tactical exercise. You want inefficiency (where inefficiency means other players turning in subopti...
