Re: Twenty questions, round 232

I enjoyed it! Thank you Spartaculous. Give me an hour to collect my thoughts and come up with an equally inspired, if non-vegetable, pick.

Re: Twenty questions, round 232

I don't know what you have in mind, but the answer to that question wouldn't help me. If you get a Yes to that question, and that leads you to a good answer, go ahead and ask it. If the answer will leave you just as stumped, perhaps not. I'd rather know what country its associated with, but can't pi...

Re: Twenty questions, round 232

Scottish Thistle
Plus that is a symbol. I'm pretty sure the hints imply that this is an actual item with its own character.

Re: Twenty questions, round 232

If the flower question was #19, does anyone want to get their free guesses in before I ask a Q20? FYI, my question will be "does this entity have a given name (like Pete the Dragon, or Excalibur); as opposed to a description (like the Stone of Scone, or the Royal Oak). I am not asking that question ...

Re: Twenty questions, round 232

A shamrock would have been good, given the date, but not specific enough to match the hints.

Re: Twenty questions, round 232

Is it associated with olives?
Wouldn't that have once been part of a tree?

Re: Twenty questions, round 232

Rule 2 says conditional questions are counted, but doesn’t forbid conditional guesses.

If the question about “associated with Europe” is no, my free guess is the Chrysanthemum Throne.

Re: Twenty questions, round 232

I don't think there are any creatures currently alive born before 1700.
It's not yet established that it was born before 1700. All we know is it was "not born" after 1700. We don't yet know that it was "born".

Re: Twenty questions, round 232

Change this to male XOR alive No. As I understand the XOR boolean connector, it means "either a or b but not both." But the answer was "no" so logically either a and b are both true, or a and b are both false. In the context of this question, our entity is either male/alive or female/dead. Hominida...

Re: 20 Questions - Game 226

Judges write, but the most famous judge I can find that fits the answers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Denning,_Baron_Denning) also wrote some books after he retired, so he is an author if not primarily one. Ah hell, I'm just going to give it to Aristocrat. The only reason he didn't guess Lord...

Re: 20 Questions - Game 226

Was that supposed to mean "not primarily/famous as an author" or not an author, period?
I meant, he is not famous as an author, would not call himself an author, you would not introduce him as an author. But he wrote as part of his job.

Also I believe the person had to have died older than 82 years old?

Re: 20 Questions - Game 226

Also Alexander was born 1802 and died 1890. Our man was born 1821-1899 and lived more than 82 years (so died no earlier than 1903).

Re: 20 Questions - Game 226

My first guess: George William Alexander?
No. Colder than the Duke of Westminster.

1. Not Edmund Knowles Muspratt.
2. Not Hugh Grovesnor, 1st Duke of Westminster - warmer.
3. George William Alexander - colder.

I'll add my traditional warmer/colder hints:

2. Not Hugh Grovesnor, 1st Duke of Westminster - warmer.

Re: 20 Questions - Game 226

Hugh Grovesnor, 1st Duke of Westminster
No, but he is fascinating. The current Duke is Britain's wealthiest landowner. There is no "E" in Hugh.

1. Not Edmund Knowles Muspratt.
2. Not Hugh Grovesnor, 1st Duke of Westminster.
