Re: Suggest an Awesome Opening!

Germany: Centrifuge Opening. F KIE-BAL, A BER-PRU, A MUN-KIE. You get Holland and convoy the other army to Denmark, giving a solid position on Sweden. My only critique is that Russia is guaranteed Sweden in 01, and will probably build F StP sc. Italy: Illyrian Opening. Start as a Lepanto, but move ...

Re: Suggest an Awesome Opening!

Austria: Russian Floric Opening. F TRI goes for Albania, A BUD tries Rumania and A VIE gets Galicia. England: Atlantic Opening. Convoy army to Norway, while F LON goes ENG and then MID for a massive increase in tempo. France: Vineyard Opening. A MAR-BUR guards from Germany and gets Spain, A PAR-GAS ...

Re: The Mediterranean Axis

I can see a F/I/T Mediterranean Axis along these lines: France: A Par-Bur A Mar S A Par-Bur F Bre-Mid Italy: A Ven-Tyr A Rom-Apu F Nap-Ion Turkey: A Con-Bul F Ank-Bla A Smy-Arm So you got France betting heavily on a Maginot Opening, with Italy pulling a Tyrolean Lepanto and Turkey using the Crimean ...

Re: Development Feedback

An interactive map like on vDip would be awesome. Oh, and statistics for each variant as on vDip.

Re: Why Players Prefer Draw-Size Scoring

This may sound overly simplistic but I have given it some thought. How would people feel about a hybrid scoring system where half the pot was distributed with DSS and the other half is distributed with SoS? I feel as though this would strike a nice balance of rewarding close solo attempts and elimi...

Discord Tournament - Season II

Hello webDippers! A second season of the Discord Diplomacy Tournament is upon us. Season I had 92 players who played 44 games, ending with a victory to @iosers's Germany. Here's what you need to know: Official Tournament Game Specs: • Classic Europe • Game playable until 1910 • 24hr move, 24hr build...

Re: Bringing new variants to WebDiplomacy?

We want Colonial! Bugs and all! The vDiplomacy install of Colonial has most if not all known bugs fixed, should be simple to add it here too. But I would prefer the One True version of Colonial: Avalon Hill's. Playing Japan and landing an unit in Sakhalin for all eternity is a joy I remember fondly...

Re: How would you improve the website?

Regarding developing the website into an app, I do wonder if it would provide for additional options such as sending notifications when messages come in and when turns end (regarding the latter, in live games I find myself constantly refreshing to ensure that the turn hasn't ended early because eve...

Re: Bringing new variants to WebDiplomacy?

Another variant worth adding is Canton - especially for those who miss the feel of Colonial Diplomacy, but don't miss its paradoxes, bugs and weird unbalance. https://vdiplomacy.com/variants.php?variantID=108 Balance of the board is quite good - the variant is out on vDiplomacy and Conspiracy, both ...

Re: Italy and Greece

As Italy, even though I recognize the relevance of A GRE in anti-Austrian intentions, I cannot possibly discard the option of F GRE for two reasons: 1) Greece is one of the most important areas of the map and a fleet there fully unleashes its capabilities, deciding Austrian/Russian/Turkish naval amb...

Re: [Offsite] Diplomacy Tournament on Conspiracy/Backstabbr

(Apologies, I posted some outdated information - a few rules changed overnight :nmr: ). The tournament is now accepting sign-ups again! It switched to a more dynamic system where players can hook up at any time, but the more games you play the better the chance to get a better score and win up. SETT...

Re: [Offsite] Diplomacy Tournament on Conspiracy/Backstabbr

So it started already and I can't join anymore? You can't  - fortunately the tournament filled up pretty quickly. The first "season" happened in June/July. The second season will take place in September/October. Sign-ups for the third season should start around October/November. As soon as the...

[Offsite] Diplomacy Tournament on Conspiracy/Backstabbr

Come check a new tournament! Played on Conspiracy/Backstabbr. Here's the link for the tournament's Discord, where you can follow the games' results as they happen: https://discord.gg/Ckzkvd It's the second edition of hopefully many other editions. You can check the first "season"s results through th...

Re: [Classic] The Mountain Opening

at some point, with more games under my belt, i plan to compile a list of games that meet various criteria. here is one of an early f/i*: https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=210362#gamePanel *includes at least two new players and a cd in 1901. Hmm, isn't that an interesting game? Italy/France...

Re: [Classic] The Mountain Opening

I just don’t buy into F/I alliance in 01
I cannot blame you at all - it's pure theory. I lack the statistical data to properly corroborate whether the opening is useful or harmful to either side. Just food for thought. :-D

Re: [Classic] The Mountain Opening

That’s the best part, i don’t need to keep it a secret Come on, you know you'd just abandon your 17th game after things get tough. Perhaps I am paranoid, or stick to conservative predictable openings Hmm, if you stop and think about A BUR *and* A TYR then you are actually a very attentive pla...
