Re: Paper about webdiplomacy bots

All the clues you need to find this out are in the paper.

I'll give you another, though- it only posts "GG" or "GG!" after the game. It doesn't always post this, and I suspect it might have been manual (at least on some games).

This is cool! When was this?

Also:
n anonymous games against humans
Clearly, they don't know if the games were against humans or not, since neither do we.

Re: Bots don't seem to ever want to stop a solo and get a draw

We should train a bot from *only* Bo's games, and pitch it against the current "average webdip player" bot.

You suppose I survive long enough in high quality games to actually have the opportunity to stop someone else from soloing.
I never said that.

Anyway, are you any good at Uno?

Re: Bots don't seem to ever want to stop a solo and get a draw

The report is right, though. It would be much better if the bots understood solos. Is the fitness function counting dots? We don't want to simulate Bo, here.

Being asleep when the action happens is a problem, but judging my my recent performance, I have also been asleep while writing orders.

Re: All Diplomacy Scoring Stinks

They are. When I had database access, I also did the analysis per message character - as far as I remember, it didn't give different results in terms of predictive power. I really think both are just models of game engagement, though. I don't think that there's an important difference in messaging s...

Re: All Diplomacy Scoring Stinks

GR isn't a very good predictor of future performance. You can beat it if you make the system a bit more like Elo. I've complained about this before - in GR, high ranked players still get a big boost from beating high GR players, even if they're peers. Elo doesn't work that way - in Elo beating peers...

Re: Cancel not Draw!

A bigger problem in classic statistics are games where solos happen because players are missing or otherwise not functional. When I looked in 2015, around 60% of FP games ended in a solo on webdip.

Re: Cancel not Draw!

It would be nice if cancelled games were persisted, though. I think vDip maybe has this? I remember looking in to it once but I think it was annoying to implement for some reason that I don't remember.

Re: Cancel not Draw!

Flame: When I did analysis of games on webdip I removed all games that were drawn before a solo is possible (1903 I think? I don't remember).

For the 1903 solo I think everyone else has to help, though.

Re: Ghost Rating Challenge

I wanted to do that for the spectate game feature - maybe a separate game tab for spectators that isn't visible to the players.

I also thought about allowing anyone to post in global in any game #whatcouldgowrong.

Re: Ghost Rating Challenge

You're allowed to comment publicly, but should you? I feel like I would want the players to agree to public commentary before it happened- sometimes there's things that you can only see if you're not in a game- and I wouldn't want to be playing a game against the whole forum unless I signed up for i...
