Re: Should you ever *not* take Galicia in 1901S?

There’s a cost associated with a DMZ, too. Let’s say for some reason that you 100% trusted each other. There’s a case to be made for moves like Vie-Tyl and War-Gal, as a less alarming version of an opening like Vie-Tyl and War-Sil (which should ally the board against A/R). Similarly, War-Ukr and Vie...

Re: Suggest an Awesome Opening!

But ATC, what do you do if you get in to tyrolia? Well, then you get to have considerable control over the speed of the west (you can slow down Germany, you can speed up France, you can influence the side that England takes), you can keep Italy honest (or meaningfully threaten Italy - which is not ...

Re: Suggest an Awesome Opening!

I don't think enough Austrias open to Tyrolia in Spring 01. It's especially hilarious if you bounce Italy there.

Re: Don’t have time for games

What do you mean they don’t have time? It’s like one line “if day length less than 28 hours, add more time”. I dont see what’s so hard.

Re: Transitioning Scoring Systems: Backward Compatibility?

I removed PPSC. As others have said, it was done by disabling game creation, not by removing it from the site. This is important, because for game history to work (with the way webdip is written), all historical options need to be available. I’m sure the commits are around if you want to see them. I...

The advice above is correct, but really the best workaround is not to have any disbands.

Don’t have time for games

As the title says, I don’t have time to play games at the moment. It would be really great if the site could handles this. Just an extra hour or two in the day should be enough.

A while back I think Jmo(?) and I were talking about a section on the profile that said “finished games” and had this (and other) statistics, making the meaning clearer.

Re: Does this English opening have a name?

The convoy option *is* hilarious, but if you know Denmark is going to be open and France isn't a threat, wouldn't it it better to put the fleet there? You have better options in the medium term, and retreating out of Denmark is probably more valuable than having the unit popped.

Re: Turkey gunboat opening options

My first question is a little pedantic so forgive me. You say in "70-80% of games" it's not the strongest opening. How do you know that you are in the 70-80% of games where it's not, vs the 20-30% of games where it is? More substantively--aren't you really trading off options against Russia for opt...

Re: Turkey gunboat opening options

Oh! I should add that I don’t like smy h *just* because it makes it easier to get the fleet out- my preferred set of orders for the fleet (everything else being equal) is to go to the Black Sea with Russia’s permission- either in spring (ideal) or fall (more likely to be acceptable to Russia).

Re: Turkey gunboat opening options

I don’t like Ank-Con as the first move, because I think it (should) immediately band together Italy and Austria- and I don’t like forming alliances that don’t have me in them. Of course, I *love* that opening if I am say Russia. As to russia’s fleet or protecting Bulgaria in 1902 - In general, I’m n...

@flash:

Sadly, Bill Brown passed away recently. Glasses were raised, and words were said. Goffy named the boards at the tournament in Bill's honour.

Tristan Lee is I believe not in the country anymore (he was around before I was, I never met him). Are you an Australian player?
