Re: World Diplomacy Championships 2019

I just finished Chris Martin's 2016 WDC series and it was sick as fuck. It got me so hyped to stop this online silliness and play face to face. Too much stuff going on in life right now to try to start a hobby in my area but I can dream... Anyway, my point is, I will devour any content that anyone f...

And that’s basically how you vet the players. After a few moves, if somebody surprises you with their moves then they’re one or the other and it’s usually not hard to tell the difference 99% of the time.
Haha that is a great heuristic... I like it. Thanks VI.

First off, it is Bul(ec), not Bul(nc). To answer your question, no, the moves will not succeed. The only way two units can switch places is if one or both are convoyed.
Thanks David!

Re: Should Italy open west more?

If the diplomacy (small 'd') is right, why not go east and west simultaneously? Agreed. As swordsman pointed out, it's maybe impossible in gunboat, but in full press Diplomacy at least, I think that a 5 centre Austria can be bolstered with a single fleet in Ionian and pretty handily withstand the j...

Bul/Con fleet swap

I think I know the answer, but wanted to double check with people familiar with the webDip adjudicator.

F Bul NC -> Con
F Con -> Bul SC

Is this a legal move, or a bounce?

Re: Should Italy open west more?

As I've written before, Italy simply cannot ignore Austria and Turkey in favor of an attack on France. Austria and Turkey have no hope of solo winning without invading Italy. The same cannot be said about France. This is a great point, swordsman. I was thinking of it in terms of, "Italy needs Frenc...

Re: School of War Summer 2019

I've mentioned in the previous lectures that sometimes when a center is obviously defended, it ends up not being necessary to defend it because everyone assumes you will. File away in your playbooks, this is the sort of game style that separates the good from the great. This is a really great point...

Bumping this thread for the weekend diplomats... I don't think the 101 point game will fill, but the 44 point game is well on the way to quorum. Join for justice!

Re: 1st Game Played - Reflections and Questions

"Some people did not talk to me ?" if someone doesnt talk to you he is a bad player. there are different reasons why a weak player doesnt talk to you. maybe he doesn't like to talk (much) at all or maybe he has nothing nice to tell you and so prefers not to talk with you, but with others. To add to...

I have unwisely contributed my points to this endeavor.

I really enjoy AARs, hopefully you all can be convinced to submit one? :) I'm trying to overcome my GB mediocrity.

Re: Should Italy open west more?

http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=242841#gamePanel (I was Germany) We formed a Central Triple and Italy went both directions with some success. It was a surprise attack on both fronts; against Russia (A/G in S02), and then France (G/I in S02). It nearly stalled out against France, as they pi...

Re: Should Italy open west more?

I tend to open west with Italy more often than most people I think, and I have mixed feelings on it. I think it depends a lot on press vs. gunboat, disposition of the other western powers, and even opening moves of Turkey, Russia, etc. I think even if you don't intend to fight France, parking an ar...

Re: Should Italy open west more?

I think one reason Italy does not go all in on France more often is due to how defensible Spain and Portugal are. That's an interesting point, I hadn't thought of it in those terms. I suppose you need to surprise France and hopefully create a situation (i.e. via E/G) where they may be unwilling to ...

Somehow I've ended up playing mostly gunboat games, which means I'll be adding several losses to my record momentarily.

Should Italy open west more?

I'm hardly the most seasoned player, but I was just noticing that in the 20 classic (GB/FP) games I've completed, I have seen Italy fake west three times, but only once actually move against French SCs before Austrian or Turkish dots. I know that this is entirely in line with the conventional wisdom...

Trying to keep my voice low from the peanut gallery, but here are two things (besides R/T and everything directly associated) I'm really curious about. -Who are Germany and Italy talking to, and what are they proposing? What are others proposing to Germany and Italy? Despite being "the weakest" powe...

Re: MAFIA 48 -The Gladiator- GAME THREAD [HIDDEN]

Maybe I'm just lazy, but could someone summarize why Prado was even being voted for? All I remember him doing was posting lots of dots one time. Ask Jamie and xorxes I think I drove this wagon, maybe I'm biased towards my own experience but I spazzed on Prado hard. Jamie just jumped on the wagon I ...
