Re: Violence in the US after killing by police.

Black Lives Matter primarily focuses on injustice against black people by police, but this hasn't stopped them from advocating against all police violence, like when Daniel Shaver, a white man, was killed by police. I feel trying to paint these protests as "racist" obfuscates the point. Painting th...

Surprising. Does this indicate that tear-gassing peaceful protesters outside a church *isn't* a vote winner?
Pretty sure his die hard supporters will not bat an eyelid. Whereas how many citizens have been arrested who would otherwise have voted for Biden?

Re: State-sanctioned violence

As to flash's explanation, yes our news does the d to be biased towards other 'white' /'western' nations. How and ever, we are also more likely to be able to influence such self-declared democracies. Public opinion in these places is supposed to matter (for Trump, public opinion seems to only matter...

Re: Violence in the US after killing by police.

Except, that white people are killed by cops all the time. And the cops face prosecution less than when blacks are killed. Sounds like you have a serious problem with your police force. But remind me. What percentage of the population is white? And what percentage of people killed by cops is white?...

Non racist is not enough, you need to be anti racist.

And Colin Kaepernick demonstrated what happens when you protest peacefully.

Re: Violence in the US after killing by police.

That's part of the issue. If recent history shows much, its that justice might not follow. That is the crux of the issue. Police officers in recent memory have been acquitted of killing black men. There is no faith in the justice system which is what evokes these reactions. If there was faith in th...

Re: Violence in the US after killing by police.

Yes, the violence. Which is caused by anger, which has built up without outlet for years. Ignoring the context is why you are missing the point. You know, the race based anger of the Nazi had built up over years. That didn't mean that it was based on fact. Anger at the way Germany was treated by th...

The 'train metaphor' is, for those interested, the title of an excellent documentary by US hIstorian and civil rights activist, Howard Zinn.

Re: State-sanctioned violence

How can you possibly worry about when Webdiplomacy.net's banner is removed when India is persecuting Muslims? What about the Rohingya people of Myanmar? What about the Chinese govt's treatment of Uyghurs? Why aren't you worried about the Australian government's treatment of aboriginals and South Asi...

Re: State-sanctioned violence

Whataboutery is a clear claim that you are trying to derail the conversation by saying 'what about other thing'. It is often used disingenuously, I see right groups responding to claims that asylum seeker need to provide with basic needs, by saying 'what about our own homeless people?' - but do you ...

Re: State-sanctioned violence

You can't be neutral on a moving train.

Not opposing the status quo and doing nothing amounts to implicit support.

As Edmund Burke said 'The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.'

Re: Violence in the US after killing by police.

Why are you so keen to treat this as an isolated incident rather than just one small part of a much more significant problem? Partly because this thread was primarily about the incident and subsequent violence, so that is naturally what I focused on. Partly because there's no proof that says that t...
