Re: Australian Federal Election~Saturday 18th May

I love how this happens... Not on schedule to suit some media cycle, not two years in advance so you are constantly on a campaign footing. Just within a certain number of years of the last election. Sireit is vulnerable to politics of the moment messing about. But it still seems more healthy than ce...

Nothing. In the modern era only the Trump Show is on, every channel, all the time.

Re: Multiculturalism Ruins Nations

It seems appropriate here to point out the the 'classic Nation-state' model lead directly to the game of diplomacy - via the wonderful experience of two world wars. Nation states can not be trusted to live peacefully next to each other... Is what the above logic would conclude. And yet those same n...

Can we not use undiagnosed medical conditions as slurs? Trump has done enough wrong without throwing people with dementia under the bus.

Wikileaks, Assange, and sexual assault

Documents published by Wikileaks relating to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan revealed how the US military had killed hundreds of civilians in unreported incidents. The US has already charged Assange with a single count of participating in the hacking of intelligence computers to reveal controversi...

Re: Brexit

<snip> There has to be a point where Britain returns to business as usual after this 3 year fiasco & if May & Corbyn can’t make that happen now by some compromise with a “customs union” (or whatever they can agree upon) I suspect it will result in more than just political problems. Whatever is done...

Re: Brexit

I don't know about the UK vs Brussels side of thing, but I don't feel the EU has forced any socially liberal regulations down our throats... There are countries across Europe with bans on things like abortion. Poland being an example, with Ireland having made its own mind up last year. I can't think...

Re: Brexit

You are right about the legal force. The argument could be made that this should have been an issue which pro-remain politicians and media outlets used as their 'reason' for requesting a second referendum. Side stepping all those 'but if you win will it be best of 3?' questions. With "no, no, just o...

Re: Brexit

OK, how about this for an argument: the leave campaign broke the law and as a result the referendum result should be nullified and a new referendum called.

Trump invents a problem (ie starting a trade war) and then tries to solve it... Going to claim victory either way is my guess.

Re: The Right's Denial of Climate Change Will Destroy the World

You know China is fast becoming one of the world's largest producers of solar cells. Creating 'green' jobs, which the US is losing out on... While being blamed for all their coal output (yet they still have a lower per capita carbon footprint than most 'developed' nations.

Re: EU Speed Law Enforcement 2022 Onwards

Safety features upon safety features, I'm only surprised insurance companies aren't pushing them. I know one colleague is getting a box installed in her car to track her driving (i think she is only insured for the first 10,000 km, and has to pay for the next 5,000km or whatever the figures are). Bu...

Re: Brexit

Thank you. I knew someone better informed could help with the “what happened “. I now suggest repetition of a similar scenario is entirely possible. Firstly peaceful protest by the “losers” claiming they were disenfranchised because their vote was ignored, or alternatively they weren’t given a dese...

Re: Brexit

OK, that became much more of a rant. I do feel the start of the troubles have much more in common with the civil rights movement in the US or the SA apartheid situation than the current Brexit divisions. Currently who is the group feeling unrepresented by Westminster? If only the Brits living in the...

Re: Brexit

The divisiveness of what has happened will probably last decades. I remember as a schoolboy the 60’s “troubles” & what I perceived as minor sectarian disputes (oh, the naivety of youth). 30+ years of appalling conflict later some sort of peace was established. Being English I’m not as qualified as ...
