Re: Announcing the 2020 Masters Tournament

Hi everyone.

Just a reminder that if you need a pause in your game, ask me. The NMRs are getting out of hand now. I've been somewhat lax on my policy on this, but I've still removed 3-4 people from the tourney for it.

Re: What are you reading?

I'm re-reading Tolkein. Gonna see if I can get my hand on copies of the Unfinished Tales and some of his other lesser-known works.

Re: Announcing the 2020 Masters Tournament

As an update, if anyone is experiencing disruptions to their life due to the coronavirus, please let me know and we can work out pausing your games and for how long they will need be paused. It will not count against your allotment of pause time.

Re: Announcing the 2020 Masters Tournament

I've also updated scoring to be accurate as of all currently completed games.

Looking at an April 1st launch date for Round 5! Then probably a mid-late May for a combined Rounds 6 and 7 launch.

Re: Most exciting games ever!

Goldfinger, those are some really... long.... games..... Not sure how you managed to keep a dynamic game state for so long. Surely would've been thrilling to play though. All you need is a few like-minded players who are all put in the same position. Which is "If I don't solo this game, I lose". If...

Re: Most exciting games ever!

Hmmm.

I'd have to say one of these two. Afraid my best diplomacy days are well behind me.

Any thought about expanding the format to include bot games or 1v1s?
I hadn't given it any thought. To include those would likely involve a lengthy round-robin of 1v1s. Something like 14 games. Creating a fair scoring for that would be challenging.

Re: The truth about the new forum

Thanks @stefanodangello. I was planning on running a World Cup sometime late summer, once the last of the Masters games should be winding down. One every two years seems to be a healthy frequency. If there's an appetite to run it earlier, I'd likely need help. Otherwise I'm good with my trusty mod-f...

Re: The truth about the new forum

I meant volunteer as a mod jmo, not in other capacities. As for your second point, I did concede to flash in my next post that the better way to analyze it would be a comparison across different sites. If what you say is indeed the case, then I largely agree with you. As for the third, I didn't know...

I just updated to the latest version of Chrome and this is how it looks for me

I'm relieved that it doesn't look bad for everyone though.

Re: The truth about the new forum

And I've had feedback on the tournament part of the site sitting for several months now. One of which was "could you widen the columns of the chart so I can read people's names" Seriously though, go to Tournaments->Scoring and Participants. Is the leftmost column not squished all to hell? But since...

Re: The truth about the new forum

Correlation != Causation. There could be many reasons why people are not involved in dip as they once were. Anyway to turn your specific complaint into an actionable request - why couldn't we potentially have both - some way to view "All Topics" as well as a way to categorize too? If you tried to p...

Re: The truth about the new forum

In reality the mods are limited by those actually willing to make a commitment to manage the site and the limited amount of donations required to keep the site running. Eh, not exactly. There are certain personas non grata that they won't take who are willing to volunteer, myself among them I think...

Re: Announcing the 2020 Masters Tournament

Hello everyone. With the majority of Round 1&2 games finished and most Round 3 games well into the mid-game, I'll be starting up Round 4 this weekend. So far we're still roughly on schedule for starting a round every 5-6 weeks.

Re: M1009 [HIDDEN]

Man, I was stressed because at one point or another xorxes and bozo both had majorities of the scumteam nailed. Getting Tom out early was fairly big too, as I think he was wise to what I was doing.
