Re: Moderator Team Announcement

If you NMR enough, you automatically get temporarily banned. I imagine that's what happened. I'm deeply disappointed in him, but at the same time, I don't think I'll be the only one who'll miss him too. It is a shame, I liked him. Friendly guy. Hopefully he can be unbanned and just have his mod pow...

removing his own temporary bans
Shouldn't a mod being given temp bans in the first place have been a huge red flag? What was he being temp banned for?

They would bounce. All the units would stay where they are. It would not have mattered if Ruhr moved instead, because units cannot cut support being used to attack them.

Re: Introducing the first ever webDiplomacy Terminator Tournament!

Doesn't Key Lepanto require prior coordination so that Austria opens with Bud S Vie-Gal or something? The point of the Key Lepanto isn't usually that you coordinate it; Italy strongarms Austria into accepting a Key so they don't lose Trieste. So yeah, it's worse for Austria than a regular Lepanto. ...

Re: Introducing the first ever webDiplomacy Terminator Tournament!

Key lepantos aren’t unheard of in gunboat. They just require a knowing and competent Austrian player to recognize them, as well as proper tactics and positioning by Italy as he needs to make it abundantly clear that he isn’t attacking. Sending one army to Trieste and the other to Apulia is usually ...

Anonymous players
Fill in your name if you want to join
Ok I get you may not know who is who, but you know the cohort. Not very anonymous ?
It's a pretty common way to play. It's sufficiently anonymous to avoid collusion.

@Swordsman3003, have you considered writing a BGOAT-style log for a full-press game?
He already did, it's up there (he played England in that one)
Derp! Thanks.

Re: Diplomacy Games are Like Onions, Layer 1: Politics

I strongly agree with this, along with many of the other things Octavious said. The goal of Diplomacy, like any game, is to have fun, with a secondary goal (like most games) being winning. Of course, like Octavious and most people here, I play to win, especially given that I haven't soloed yet and ...

How would the game change if you won at 17, not 18 SCs?

My thought is that the first player to reach 17 SCs would win a solo victory. If two players simultaneously got to 17 SCs, they would automatically 2WD. Would the game be better or worse with this change? Would it be more or less balanced, and what would the ramifications be on how the game was play...

Re: Luck Plays No Part in Diplomacy

I found something super hilarious in swordsman's "Biggest Game Of All Time" writeup (an excellent writeup IMO): What I really hope to accomplish here is to harass England’s moves. I think England is very likely to move North Sea to Skagerrak, Norway, or Heligoland Bight (maybe even in that order of ...

So, each time a game is created, it gets a unique number, and if it then fails to get enough players to start, that number is still used up?
It's certainly the best way to do it!

Does every site have its coding accessible through github? I didn’t know that was a thing
Not every site. Just the best ones. It's called "Open Source".

A lot of proprietary code is also on GitHub, but on private repositories and not accessible to the public.
