Re: Why Players Prefer Draw-Size Scoring

In response to meme, I don't necessarily agree with all of Walker's views. Yet, I agree with them in part; there are different ways to play the game and that diversity needs to be recognised. Of course, I think we all agree that scoring systems should only incentivise what's written in the rulebook:...

Re: Why Players Prefer Draw-Size Scoring

If I answer meme's points completely, I would need to write an essay of my own. Since I have more important essays to write at the moment, discussion on only a few points will have to suffice. I don't even agree that DSS as we have it is the intended interpretation of the statement in the rulebook. ...

Re: Why Players Prefer Draw-Size Scoring

Carnage is much too complex to use for anything except tournament scoring. That said, I guess its ranked-draws system, being linear, is a decent middle ground between SoS's extremes and DSS's flatness. I could get behind a ranked-draw scoring system, although I haven't thought a lot about its incent...

Re: Why Players Prefer Draw-Size Scoring

First, thank you to both Sword and Meme for sparking this discussion. Both of you have made excellent points. Capt, you are right to point out that a lot of Swordsman's argument rests on assuming DSS is the default. Removing that assumption allows for a more unbiased examination of the merits of eac...

Re: How would you improve the website?

What exactly are you looking for? Given my status as a plebian now, I for one miss knowing what development is currently being worked on, and what changes are actually made. I can think of two things that could make the process a little more transparent to regular users. First, we could actually st...

Re: How would you improve the website?

Oh man, I should have created a new thread before I started this topic... So allowing any combo of messages in a 7 person game means there are 21 possible 2 person chats, 35 3 person chats, 45 4 person chats, 15 5 person chats, 7 6 person chats and 1 7 person chat. So around 125 chats total up from ...

Re: How would you improve the website?

On the topic of messaging multiple people, there are a few sites that do it much better than either PlayDip or webDip. I think no matter what, we want to keep an instant-messaging–style system and certainly not switch to PlayDip's email–style. There are two game apps that I think do instant-messagin...

I'm sorry to see you go, ghug. You've been a great service to the site. I wish you all the best.

On a side note, are we considering jmo an admin, or are we breaking the ≥2 admins tradition?

Re: Having trouble logging into 2019 Registration

Perhaps we should train admins to set relative urls in their banners, (if it's even possible) until the underlying redirect problem is fixed?

Re: How would you improve the website?

That said, how difficult would it be to make the webdiplomacy website into a cross compatible game (accessible via website as usual and downloadable game for your cellphone)? If Diplomacy could also be played on your cellphone versus just opening it via website page, maybe that would increase the a...

Re: Diplomacy 2.0

Is it possible to alter the variant system so every map variant has some press options. Perhaps I misunderstand you, but it is currently possible to change press options for variant games. You can already play Ancient Med gunboats, for example. As for adding new press variants, I'd say that most of...

Re: I've been gone a while...

I already got someone for the 7th spot via PM. We'll keep the rest of you in mind if anyone drops out. Settings-wise, does anyone have objections to 30 :points: buy-in, anon, full press, 50h/phase, DSS, Public Draw votes? Any opposition for aiming to start the 27th? Finally, does anyone have a good ...
