What Do Dip Players Do in Real Life?
I am under the impression that most (online?) Dip players are geeks/nerds or somehow people from technical fields, especially Information Technology, perhaps with some humanistic background. I for one am a philosopher-by-education turned into an IT guy - former system engineer, former developer, for...

Re: Etiquette when games delayed
I don't know whether this has ever been discussed. But what do you do in case of an NMR, or a CD? Do you feel free to continue your negotiations, and change your orders if needed? I don't see any special difference between a delay caused by an NMR and one caused by the system. On the other hand IIRC...

Re: How Old are Diplomacy Players
At 63 I'm even older than Dargo, but still born in the second half of the past century.
I played some face-to-face games in my thirties, then just had a look at some PBMs/PBEMs, and eventually discovered this site a couple of years ago

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!
It should also be noted that the gunboat games are lasting longer in terms of game years too. The first two have respectively reached 1911 and 1914, and are still going on, while all the press games ended in 1909/10/11 - apart from the famous (or infamous?) Group A Public Press which ended in 1905. ...

Re: Join an old-school game
Hi, I was on this site about a decade ago and played some great games. Back then, most of the best games were classic map, anonymous, draw-size scoring, and full-messaging. People would expect to do a fair bit of negotiating during the game, sometimes with multiple back-and-forths in a single turn....

Re: How often do games draw?
Just to be clear, there is no thing like a double-win, so, yes, your friend is incorrect. There are only three possible results: victory, which means solo win, draw, be it 2, 3, ..., 7-way, and loss, which may mean that you've been eliminated or that you survived to a solo. Solo win is the target - ...
