Re: Why Players Prefer Draw-Size Scoring

As promised, I posted captainmeme's response essay to my blog. It's absolutely awesome to get a guest post, and I love that the blog now has an argument against my perspective.

Thank you captainmeme!!

Re: Why is gunboat so popular among the high ranked players

I realize I am repeating some points made earlier. But in short: Gunboat takes a small time commitment. If you log in once a day, you can submit your orders and be done with it. Gunboat requires a huge amount of self-reliance and experience. Newer players depend more on press to know what's happenin...

Re: Why Players Prefer Draw-Size Scoring

If anyone is willing to write a contrary article about why experienced players sometimes prefer sum-of-squares scoring, I would gladly publish it on my blog as a guest post. It doesn't have to be long. I'd prefer something that is a stand-alone article on the benefits of SoS and limitations of DSS ...

Why Players Prefer Draw-Size Scoring

Hello my friends. I've written another post for my Diplomacy blog this month, once again in response to fan mail. In this article, I respond to the question of why so many players prefer to play draw-size scoring on this website. My response turned out to be about 8,000 words.... https://brotherbore...

5 Reasons I Love to Play as Italy in Gunboat

I get compliments on my gunboat writings around here, so I figured I’d share this. I am trying to make diplomacy strategy writing a regular thing. I’ll take requests if you submit them to my blog.

Enjoy.

You all bring a tear to my eye. I love this community. So many good people coming together to have fun. I never get tired of this hobby.

I still hear the call of duty and intend to return to modding some time when I can.

Re: "The Biggest Game of All Time" - 1 year later

I suspect that the high "courage" requirement of gunboat diplomacy is that you have to leave your centers unguarded, despite not being able to make any explicit deals or gain reassurances from your neighbors.

"The Biggest Game of All Time" - 1 year later

Hello friends. As some of you may know, I wrote a massive EoG last year for a high-level gunboat game on this site. Recently, I started a blog and converted that journal into blog posts (this was not a trivial task). I thought this might make the content a lot more accessible and might get some new ...

Re: Video diplomacy

I am interested, and I have a follow-up suggestion:

Do you have any interest in publishing the videos after the game, for educational purposes? I have been trying to thing of something different I could put on my blog this year (after keeping that gunboat journal last year).

Re: Let’s see if we can get a game going

Would you consider a really high bet and anything else to generate interest?

What if we got agreement from the players that I could publish all the press when the game is over so that students could study the game?

Also, I got knocked out of the gunboat tournament so I'm available for a good press game, if you think playing with me would make a good game.

Re: The mass exodus

Instead of complaining, why not take action and get a good press game going? What constitutes a good game, in your mind? I've been thinking about some cool ideas to get a high-quality league going: * a game where we record and send video messages instead of text ones * a game where the players are r...

Re: Reliability Ratings

I had 40 some CDs... And after playing 100+ games with a near perfect record I was only able to raise it 10 percentage points. I feel like you should be able to advance higher in RR quicker than this. You went into CD in almost 1/3 of all the games you have played...40 CDs is a terrifying number. T...

Re: Reliability Ratings

All this talk about how hard it is to join games with a low reliability rating or to restore reliability rating once it is lowered, but what about the perspective of the victims of a civil disorder? Let me advocate for them. The experience of multiple players (everyone else in the match) is damaged ...
