Re: Suggestion: Automatic Forced Disband

I'm in favor of automatic forced disband orders, but they shouldn't be automatically readied. I feel that would be taking too much agency away from me as a player. But just auto-entering the order would be a nice QoL feature.

Re: The Carebear Conundrum

These are fundamentally dishonest players who have no honour, and I'd very much prefer it if they didn't exist here If you think people who keep their word and don't backstab are dishonest and have no honor then we must have very different ideas about the meaning of the words "honor" and "dishonest...

Re: The Carebear Conundrum

Insisting that people are playing the game wrong isn't going to do anyone any good. It just comes across as an expression of impotent rage and while it might drive some "carebears" from posting on the forum, it won't change the way they play or keep them out of your games. I assure you that "carebea...

Re: Normalize Killing Turkey Easily in Gunboat

If we were talking about a move to Tyrolia in a press game, that would be perfectly feasible. Potentially challenging if the Austrian is cautious and paranoid, but well within the realm of possibility. However: 1. OP suggested a move to Trieste , not Tyrolia. 2. The OP was specifically talking about...

France is effectively a no-go as it is impossibe to independently sustain the attack.
France has a giant bulls-eye painted on it's back though, so Italy shouldn't have trouble to ally England or Germany, possibly both.

Thoughts?
How is Austria supposed to know Italy isn't just trying to take Trieste? Italy would have a hard enough time convincing Austria of its good intentions in a press game. In gunboat? Good luck with that.

Relaxing game for people with busy lives

Lately I've found I have too little time to play most games properly, so I set up a classic game with a 7 day phase. It's anonymous with hidden draw votes, but otherwise it's full press. I set a 30 point bet and 90% reliability rating to raise the bar somewhat, without making it too exclusive. That ...

Re: Make Friends, then Choose Enemies

That was an interesting read. I always assumed that telling someone you're faking an alliance with a 3rd party would make them doubt your sincerity towards them. Though perhaps that's because I myself lean towards paranoia.

gunboat chaos game

I'm curious about the chaos variant in a gunboat setting, so I started a game. There are still 30 free spots as I write this so everyone is more than welcome to join. https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=286023

Relaxing game

I created a new game with 4 day phases. Slow enough that we can talk things over thoroughly without the game consuming all our free time, but not so slow that we would get bored (hopefully).

Re: NMR's are not that bad

I once deliberately entered no orders on a spring turn after realizing that my neighbors were unable to deploy more than 1 unit against any of the provinces I held. The idea was to trick the other players into thinking I abandoned the game and making bad moves. But the joke was on me because the ver...

Re: Math Puzzle #001

It could, but it could also imply that Americans have a higher birth rate.

T = M + ΔM(T)

T is the time it takes
M is the current median age
̙̙ΔM(T) is how much the median age changes over the course of T

I'm being a lazy here and assuming ΔM(T) counts as a valid "anything else you think you need".

Re: Confessions of a Meta-Gamer

I think that if someone stabbed you in the last 3 games and you end up together in a 4th you are entitled to be suspicious and look for alliances elsewhere, even if it means that not everyone has the same chance of winning.

Re: 2 player games

If you play the 1vs1 variants you're playing Strategy instead of Diplomacy. In the normal 7 player game you can't really get anywhere on your own. You need to persuade other players to help you, so negotiations are a huge part of the game. In the 1vs1 variants you have 1 opponent and a clear goal an...
