Re: Trump is..
Trump is hiring foreigners instead of hard working US citizens. Yes, that's flat-out hypocrisy, but the Democrats can't nail him on it because their own global labor market policies more-or-less sanction this kind of practice. Instead they have to shoot for the moon with Russia and collusion, where...

How would you know if the other guy's "Purdey" is loaded with rock salt or something more lethal?

Re: Civil war 2.0???
Your prose is becoming inscrutable.
EDIT: OK I see what you mean after the correction. Nevertheless... the president does not control the economy, which is why presidents are so often at the economy's mercy.

Re: Civil war 2.0???
Diplomacy (in real life) proceeds by an accumulation of nuances, not consistent aggression toward adversaries. Obama wasn't particularly good at this, and Clinton was straightforwardly bad at it. They cut Iran and Russia some slack in approving the movement of money or materials; this isn't automati...

Re: Civil war 2.0???
Obama's Iran deal was a bit of a joke, but so is Trump's policy toward North Korea. Not every puzzle has a solution. Obama was a 61st percentile president, Trump is looking to be about a 43rd percentile, judged merely on outcomes rather than intent in both cases. EDITED TO ADD: Neither of them are "...

Re: Civil war 2.0???
Trump isn't a patriot, because patriotism is a principle, and Trump simply doesn't have any principles. The only consistent guide to his decision making is the reaction he expects to get from doing this or saying that. After the public hullabaloo is finished, that's the end of it. He isn't even a co...

Re: Math Puzzle #001
I agree that the distinction between threats and disasters is meaningful, but my point nevertheless stands. Unity against a threat, or a disaster, involves crushing a natural human tendency (the tendency to squabble) under extreme duress. People tangle, it's human nature. We're born that way. Trying...

Re: Math Puzzle #001
One positive thing that might arise from discovering evidence of intelligent extra terrestrial life is a unifying effect amongst ourselves. This is an anti-human attitude, and not just in the context of extraterrestrials. Wishing for a catastrophe so that "unity" can be achieved literally gives "un...

Re: Identity Politics
Having never seen this guy before I got "Poe'd" by this "Pie" fellow. It was obviously ludicrous... but then again, so is Alex Jones. Anyway... identity politics isn't "crap", it's a tool of division, and it's meant to be. Used skillfully, socially-liberal capitalists can have both their social libe...

Re: Identity Politics
Identity politics, a laugh. Everyone should grow a set of balls stop whining. I totally agree, and include people complaining about identity politics in the "stop whining" category. The guy in the video is reacting very emotionally to something that is ultimately not costing him anything except, ma...

Re: Identity Politics
So , if I’m holding up my three middle fingers at you, what do you see? A guy who had to count to 21 (I.e. 10 fingers, 10 toes, and the "third middle finger") a moment before, then got angry and aroused at the same time? In any case I guess I'll go ahead and take the bait on the broader subject. Id...

Re: Identity Politics
The Laura Ingalls Wilder thing with the prize was the impetus for the rant.
If he weren't so wounded by it, he would have thanked them for breaking the association with the prize, instead of complaining about the snub. That he didn't indicates he actually craves their approval. It's namby pamby.

Re: Identity Politics
The guy doing the ranting is complaining about "identity politics" but he's as steeped in namby-pambiness as anyone else. His main beef (before venturing off on many tangents) is that Laura Ingalls Wilder has been dis-associated from some literary prize . It's a namby-pamby complaint. Almost everyth...

That's good. I quit years ago.
Still, your admiration for a country you can't move to because they won't accept you as a resident is downright unrequited. You gotta stop "pining" (a word they use there) and get on with your life where it is.

Re: Trade War _good_
Actually I semi-regret the level of sarcasm in my previous post - not everyone selling options is trading irresponsibly. But it still seems nuts for an individual to be doing - unless you're already rich, making a relatively safe premium on whatever money you haven't spent by actively writing option...

Re: Trade War _good_
The safest is selling short term calls ... Selling options when it's your own money at stake is crazy. That's something you do when you're betting other people's money and need to show steady modest profits to collect a bonus (until your trades eventually blow up, but you can collect some nice bonu...

Re: Trump is..
Trump is a Performer. When the Trump Show isn't working, he adjusts the script until the audience buys it. That in itself is the payoff for him. It's like watching Andy Kaufman as President. This often appears to be contradictory and unprincipled, because it is. There is no principle, conservative o...
