Re: The truth about the new forum

You will note here a fine example of diplomatic lessons that the forum used to teach on a regular basis. Wusti has made a post about "bagging some idiot" and with beautiful comic irony managed to misspell the word "their" in the same sentence. To a lot of people the urge to make an issue of this in...

Re: The truth about the new forum

Almost none of it had anything to do with Diplomacy That is very true, but there's an excellent reason for that. Talking about diplomacy gets very dull very quickly. It's simply not that big a topic, and anything worth saying has been said several thousand times over. You can only discuss whether o...

Yes Chaqa and he just outlined one of them. Why completely screw an endorsed variant for such limited gain?

Good to hear from you BB - you always were one of the more amusing and less objectionable characters in this community. Its just a set of wheels mate - move on. The loss of a car compared to the acquisition of regular sex and companionship is a decent swap I reckon.

Re: Convoy and moving ships

Which is pretty daft when you think about it - how many phases it takes to move a fleet from MAO to EMed - but an army can transit the entire length via convoy in one phase.

Completely illogical, yet surprisingly useful 8-)

Mine is off the charts bad but I signed up anyway. Goldie can let em in or not - up to you buddy. I do like to support site tournaments though so if people have the time do it - they are often the only way to get decent games these days.

I'd rather an ethical dickhead (like me!) than a likeable cheat anyday.

Since when does "being a nice guy" make an excuse for cheating? I think its hilarious that some people think likeability is more important than ethics.

Good call on the ban.

Re: Has Diplomacy Regressed to Just Lying?

If you solo from time to time you're doing it right. If you never solo you're doing it wrong. It's that simple. Those who see the game as an exercise in forming a game long alliance have misunderstood the concept and are robbing their fellow players of an enjoyable experience. I hate having to agre...

Re: Introducing the first ever webDiplomacy Terminator Tournament!

Its very interesting actually and not sure if swordsman has any thing to say on this, but I found my few bots games very challenging. I don't think I realised how much of my play was all about the psychology of those I was playing against, and bots game have none of that feel (maybe also because i d...

Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!

Be mindful that the dataset is larger when you include games not played on webDiplomacy. I will not be drawn into a discussion on whether PPSC or PlayDip produces worse players :p Obviously diluting our PPSC games with games from other sites is good, but better yet to purge the games altogether if ...

Re: Luck Plays No Part in Diplomacy

Skill plays no part in Diplomacy because free will is an illusion. All your victories and defeats are predetermined. Fate is inexorable. Alfred the Great would disagree, Uhtred. But if true, then it proves the case that there is neither luck nor chance in Diplomacy as well. EVERYONE IS CORRECT!
