Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!
It's better for the teams in one group if the games in the other group finishes first. The World Cup (the real FIFA one) solved this by having all of the final round games start at the same time, and proceed at the same pace, so no one could get an advantage by delay. The difficulty with Diplomacy ...

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!
PS: That's not a criticism of the organizers. I love the tournament. Just hate how the gunboat players are playing it at the moment. Move or Draw, just do something.

How Old are Diplomacy Players
I ask because I suspect that I am the oldest in most of my games (I am 56). Tabletop Diplomacy was big in my university years (the 80s and 90s). Has the game been passed down to younger players, or is it still a Generation X type of game?

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!
Perhaps. But they still shouldn't take ACTUAL years!I would expect gunboat games to go much longer than press games in terms of in game years.

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!
Suggestion for the final round: make the Gunboat games 18 or 24 hour phase. The momentum of this awesome tournament is kind of bogging down at the moment due to how much longer the GB games are taking than the FP and PP games which have been finished for some time. There is no need for GB games to h...

Re: The DBNI
Interesting to see how tournament scoring rules play such a dynamic on the game (how you got the solo because only one other player cared about the result, and his only options were table top himself, or bust). I'm playing in my first Diplomacy tournament as we speak (World Cup) and have noticed how...

Re: Fleets Supporting Fleets
Just a slight gloss on Prince William: fleets can support units in a bordering body of water or a province ON THE SAME COASTLINE.
A fleet in Rome, for example, cannot support a fleet in Venice, even though Venice does border and is on a coastline.

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!
For those teams who have been accepted, make sure your members also register via the on-site tool on the tournaments page. Forgive me, but I don't see this "on-site tool on the tournaments page." I have been to the tournaments page, seen my team listed for the 2020 World Cup, but can't see anything...

Re: Best Piece of Diplomacy Advice
1. Good players don't lie as much as this game has a reputation for. You must earn a reputation as someone who tells the truth 90% of the time, so you will be believed the other 10%. 2. Offer help at least as often as you ask for it. 3. Guess other's next moves by what their interests are, not what ...
