Re: You've Never Used Turkey's Best Opening

I disagree, Octavious. I would agree that ideally, you find an ally in Spring 1901 who you trust and who trusts you in turn, and together you work out the optimal moveset for the both of you. If you fully trust Russia, you can move Ank - Con. If you fully trust Austria, you can move Smy - Arm. If yo...

Re: You've Never Used Turkey's Best Opening

I find myself in agreement with this article, but not with the title. ;) I have used this opening in the same circumstances swordsman recommends it. So far I have both followed it up with an attack against Russia and with a Juggernaut that DMZs the Black Sea. If this article changes the meta in favo...

Re: France vs Austria Bot Challenge

How might you have botched it? If you cover Tunis, support yourself to Bulgaria, tap Con with Ank and tap Smy with Eastern Med, your solo is guaranteed.

Re: Development Update - Ghost Ratings and Profiles

I care about the distinction between live press and live gunboat games. They are very distinct. When I look at my own past games: LIVE PRESS (14 games) Won: 43% Drawn: 57% Lost: 0% LIVE GUNBOAT (12 games) Won: 0% Drawn: 50% Lost: 50% Games are harder when you cannot nicely ask your neighbours not to...

Re: Development Update - Ghost Ratings and Profiles

Squigs, thanks for the link. The different categories under 'Game Stats' are clear. For example, under the category 'Classic Press' you see all Classic press games. Easy. If it can be done for the categories under 'Game stats', why not for 'Ranking info'? Obviously you don't need to specify that you...

Re: Development Update - Ghost Ratings and Profiles

Great job! Awesome to have ratings integrated in the site! Two suggestions/bug reports: 1. The name of a Ghost Rating category is not always correct. For example, the category 'Ghost Rating Full Press' only covers Full Press games on the classic map that are non-live instead of all full press games ...

Re: All Diplomacy Scoring Stinks

I don't think you get the concept of utility points, Machiavelli. According to the definitions of BunnyGo, utility points are used to gauge the success of players in any particular game, while skill points are used to gauge the success of players across multiple games so as to reflect how skilled th...

Re: Ghana is hella good in World Dip IX gunboat, right?

Vdip has the ability for you to just see variant's stats really easily, and Ghana is still performing the best. https://vdiplomacy.net/stats.php?variantID=129 Like pyxxy said, only five games have been played on World Dip X so far. The only reason Ghana has the best stats is because it achieved the...

Re: Ghana is hella good in World Dip IX gunboat, right?

I did some stats on World Dip IX in the past. I believe Ghana is indeed statistically the best power, not only in gunboat but also in press. Kenya, Western-Canada and Quebec are very strong powers too. I think the main reason for the dominance of Ghana and Kenya is because of the following. There ar...

Re: How Do We Feel About Not Even Trying to Win?

If you play chess against someone with a higher rating than you, you may aim for a draw and people will think you did well if you succeed in that goal.

Looks good. If the point is to tease new players, you could show a random game on the right if the player currently is not in a game.

Re: Winning as Austria against bots?

Ironically, I just discovered the bots and working my way through the powers to win with each. I just started with Austria, but this last game, I was attacked by Italy, Russia, Turkey AND GERMANY! in Spring 1901. In fact, the thing that saved my bacon was that Germany and Italy were fighting each o...

Re: You are not reliable enough to join this game

It is not a bug. Apparently your friend has set a minimum Reliability Rating requirement to join the game when he created it. You can improve your Reliability Rating by reliably entering orders in games. Out of curiosity: Is the game password protected? In order to not break the Metagaming rule, it ...

It has always been the case that if you went into Civil Disorder but you go to the page of the game you were playing before anyone takes over, you are back in the game.

Good article, as usual, and nice seeing guest posts. If anybody has any additional fringe maneuvers to add that i've overlooked, i'd absolutely love to hear about them. Would make my day to hear about a new tactic! I think the 'defend by moving' tactic could have been added to part 2, about complex ...

I think this variant from vDiplomacy suits this idea really well. It would support five two-player teams.

Re: Newb Questions

It has to move from Red Sea to Egypt and then to Mediterranean Sea on the following turn, similar to how you have to move through Constantinople first if you want to move between Black Sea and Aegean Sea.

The word you are looking for is "amphibious (terrain)".
